@AlienSwineFlu where did you see fruit sax bottles being mentioned?

I saw a comment on the Facebook event where someone asked about it.

I was told by Trevor (one of the owners and brewer) that they indeed use the Conan yeast strain.

I inquired about the yeast used for Everybody Wants Some and was told it was not the Conan strain, but another fairly fruity English strain. Maybe Wyeast 1318?

I would lean towards 1318. I brew quite a few heavily hopped IPAs at home and Conan drops a lot cleaner than Everybody Wants Some. In fact, I kegged an all galaxy IPA last night that used 1318, 12% oats, and 8oz in the boil/whirlpool that looked almost identical to EWS.

Either way, 1318 or Conan are both worth harvesting for home use if you so desire.

Oh yeah, sorry didn't ask about that one. I believe when I asked about the Conan yeast strain he mentioned Roller Blabe and South of 11. Not sure what the yeast is for all their other beers.

Has anyone compared their beers with Heady? I imagine the ones brewed with Conan are the most similar. Either way I am going to try and make some of the releases now to score the beers mentioned.

I did a Konkey Dong/Julius blind side-by-side but they turned out to be very easy to tell apart based on appearance. Both were very good but Julius was the clear winner.

To all you hoofy heads on this thread: Bourbon Barrels of Maple Mom jeans are being emptied this week. Super small batch (three 8 gallon barrels) so it'll be a low bottle count. No idea on when they'll be released.

I had a couple of cans of Heady this summer when I had my first Blabe. I didn't drink them at the same time, but I thought right away it was very similar. I like Blabe a little more though.

I think I have mentioned it before, FWIW, Konkey reminds me of Hill Farmstead S&S #5

Oh man! My one friend is gonna freak out! This is the one they should've called "Everybody Wants Some"

I really dig Blabe but Heady is a clear step above for me. It just has more complexity and a malt body that is just phenomenal with the hops used. I also had a few hoof beers side by side with Julius and Haze, no real contest there either. As much as I like all the Hoof IPA's, their novelty kind of wore off for me... The juicy overload with similar flavor profiles... They are still excellent beers, don't get me wrong! Just being critical here haha.

I will say this... The past few releases have been a bit disappointing. Everybody Wants Some may be my least favorite of the bunch, along with Sidepipin' and Barley a Beginner. However Blabe, SoE, Dragon Saddle and Kong are all really solid. Musk is somewhere in the middle.

I hope they can Mom Jeans at some point, really like that one. Get something different in them cans!

HH is brewing some great beer. They are still a bit shy of Tree House, HF, and Heady but I think they will get there. We're comparing them to some of the best beer in the country so it's a tough crowd.

Absolutely! I agree. I look forward to seeing how they continue to improve.

I think you're the first person that I've heard of that didn't love this.

Haha...Three other people in our group shared similar opinions. Wasn't just me, otherwise I probably would have not said anything lol... For one, the three cans I had so far are (IMO) under carbonated. That is one "flaw" that for me, hurts the enjoyment of the beer. Not sure I am a big fan of that hop either. I don't care much for the spicey characteristic I pick up on.

Maybe it just needs some aging to mellow out. Time will tell! I'll keep trying them... Got quite a few cans to work through.

If you don't like Nelson hops, you're definitely not going to like this beer. This one is definitely a showcase for the hop.

The cans I've opened thus far have been quite robustly carbonated (not overly so, in case it sounded like I meant that), so I'm thinking there may be a problem with the cans you opened.

No under carbed cans here either.

Don't get me wrong, the cans are not flat or anything... But the level of carbonation just seems off to me... Lighter than usual for an IPA, I mean. Last night I had it in-between two other IPA's and it just seemed flat in comparison. Perhaps it is something else. I will need to give it a try on it's own again.

    @masterofsparks

You are probably right on the Nelson's... I do not recall having a Nelson only hopped IPA prior to this one, so I am sure it is simply a preference thing.

What is weird is on Sunday at the canning I thought the beer was up there with Blabe for me... But the two cans at home (same 4-pack) just don't compare to what I remember. Maybe it is just that wonderful parking lot at hoof or something influencing my beer senses! :grimacing:
