Darkness in Chicago

Honestly, from what I've seen in the forums on their pricing, $5 above what most people are charging for Darkness is a deal. If I didn't hate Galleria and didn't already have Darkness, I'd consider it at $30, given how difficult it's been to get.

It's a vicious cycle. Beers sell quickly, some people get left out. Those people decide to "stalk" the beer so that they won't get left out, so the beer sells even quicker. Because of said stalkers, more people (the ones for whom having a specific beer is really important) have to take drastic measures to get the beer. Repeat ad infinitum.

Yeah, if I didn't have a flexible lunch schedule I'd be entirely screwed. My knee-jerk reaction is "just hold them until 4 or 5pm, or something," but no matter when you hold them for, some people will be screwed. I remember being really pissed when GI released Cthulhu on weekday morning, since I had no idea why they'd choose that time (probably so as not to cut into their nighttime business at the brewpub). You can't please everyone, no matter when/how you do these releases.

And yes, acquiring BA/hyped beer is getting to be awful. It's the one darkside of being around a beer paradise like Chicago.

Yeah, it has gotten to the point where I just say screw it. If I can find it, I'll be happy to get it. Might check with a few stores to see if it's available, but I won't be distraught if I end up with none. Chances are there is a bar in the area that has it or will have it on tap anyways.

 

I grabbed the last Darkness at the Hinsdale Binny's today. They didn't get BA, so maybe it will show up at some point.

 

I didn't go searching for it, but I will have on tap this weekend.

 

Mind if I ask where is having it on tap?

Not for some.... with traffic and the pain in the ass it is to get around Chicago is more like Egypt

 

Got a BA Darkness this past Tuesday at Printer's Row Wine Shop (South Loop). Literally walked in as they were placing it on the shelf. A friend got there about 45 minutes later and they were sold out.

As an aside, I stopped by Warehouse Liquors the same day (also South Loop), and there was an empty box with a BA Pipeworks (Jones dog I think) label on it lying there on the floor. An employee said that he went to shelf it, and it was pretty much grabbed right out of his hands. Definitely writing those off...

 

Sorry for the late reply. Yes plank road tap room had it yesterday. I had the ba darkness and it was damn good.

 

The guy I talked with from Surly was unable to get barrell age darkness bottles. That's how limited the shit was. Tbh it wasn't as good as bcs! I even think 2015 darklord was better.

 

Bottles and Cans release tomorrow at 5pm for those that missed out. They'll have both versions for sale.
