Close call on this but I give Ommegang the slight edge because of Hennepin.

I gotta give the nod to Unibroue - Fin Du Monde, Maudite, Don De Dieu and Terrible are all world class. Ommegang has some really good beers no doubt, but if I could only drink offerings from one, I'm gonna roll with Unibroue.

To me, they are the only 2 NA breweries whose Belgian ales are worth drinking

As you read this, please be aware that I have not had the opportunity to try Allagash, who I've heard good things about their Belgian beers

My opinion matches exactly as well. I've never had an Ommegang that I thought was that great, whereas I've often gone for a Unibroue when I was stuck in a place that didn't have actual Belgian beers.

With that being said, in this day and age it's so easy to find actual Belgian beers that I haven't had either in quite a while. Maybe my opinion is somewhat dated.

Unibroue... just because their 4-packs are $10.99 here... and Three Philosophers is $17.99. Don't gimme the excuse of distance Ommegang!

I also love Trois Pistoles and La Fin du Monde. It's the extent of my knowledge of French for crying out loud!

Some of their stuff is brewed in Belgium now so their beers aren't classified as "Belgian-style" anymore.

Just grateful to that they are both available. I'd sorely miss beers from both lineups if they were to suddenly go away.

Okay I gave in and voted Ommegang.

Unibroue because of price. They are way cheaper.

Gotta go with Ommegang...Hennepin is one of the best American saisons out there, and a couple of their other offerings are fantastic...Unibroue produces some excellent beers, but (for me) only the Don de Dieu and one or two others stand out...now if this was Ommegang vs. Dieu de Ciel, it would be a much tougher call...

Considering my most favorite from both, Three Philosophers vs. La Find du Monde, I plead the 5th.

Another vote for Unibroue. Although they sorely lack a Saison. Hennepin is good, but there are others I prefer so I wouldn't miss it.

Great topic! I think I have to go with Unibroue. Even if I'm not crazy about one of their beers, I can't say it isn't a well crafted and precise brew. I don't know if I can say that about every Ommegang I've had. Love me some Hennepin, though. Probably one of the best American Saisons available year- round.

Not buying it, the Unibroue yeast is so burdensome to my palate. Hate it.

i like how close the poll is as of now. I voted Ommegang, but it was a close call.. both make great year-rounds but Ommegang's one-offs and limited brews have impressed me everytime i get the chance to try one.

If they made a saison even close to as good as Hennepin I probably would have chosen Unibroue. Almost no one does, though, and though I love all of Unibroue's beers I gave it to Ommegang.

Exactly. In a head-to-head poll like this I treat it like those "one brewery for the rest of your life" threads. Which one of these to would I'd pick if that was the case? Hennepin makes Ommegang the easy choice. I could live without a great triple like La Fin but take away one of the best widely available saisons and I'd be pretty bummed out.

I compared the 6 "standard" beers with my own personal scoring system from each and actually it came out dead even. But the tie breaker went to Ommegang strictly based on their more readily available "specialty" beers that I've enjoyed
