I cracked open a bottle on Saturday and really liked it. I wish I would have brought more back to Texas. I didn't get the bitterness, but I didn't get to compare it to draft. Some coffee stouts can be very bitter and acidic and I didn't get either of those flavors. Also, I enjoy dark roast so often time the bitterness doesn't affect me, I might be immune to that particular flavor in these beers. I think it's definitely worth a try.

So when I was at Oskar Blues on Saturday morning, I got there really early cause I'm 'tarded. Anyway, I was able to talk to several OB employees as they entered the facility. I talked to the guy who does all the hotbox coffee roasting. What he told me is this:
We took unroasted green coffee beans and aged them in HH bourbon barrels (3 months?). Then we roasted these beans and made cold-brew coffee with them. This cold-brew coffee was blended with BBA Tenfidy (which is 13%) to create Java TenFidy which clocks in right around 10.50% ABV.

Got a chance to try Copper Kettle's Snowed In on Saturday. This is a really nice beer. Nice aroma, lots of chocolate. Very full, smooth body. The flavors all come together quite nicely in this beer. Yes, it's pretty expensive, but just consider it a treat I guess.

You could have really doubled down and started a "BA Ten Fidy Java Infected" thread...rumors would have been flying!

Which is what I got off the keg description. Not sure why they posted a blend of Hotbox Porter and BA Tenfidy

Yeah, and possibly get banned for trolling. Probably not the best idea.

ETA: You'd also be damaging OB's reputation solely for your own amusement.

Haha - we were thisclose to doing that - but I didn't want to create problems for OB. While they can't handle a beer release they sure as hell are great people that brew some awesome stuff - so we didn't. Was so tempting! :-)

You know, perhaps I am just old, but I am not sure how tarnishing the reputation of a brewery with absolutely no justification is funny? You know how the internet is, and even in jest, something like the above could very easily get out of hand. I just don't see the point...

Beer and the internet. Serious business.

Most places like breweries, coffee shops, etc outsource their social media to third parties, so I'm not surprised something like that happened.

I've got to give a shout-out to Ratio's BA Genius Wizard. Not all young breweries are able to pull off a great barrel-aged beer, but Ratio did it. Smooth, not hot, really good. They still have bottles at the brewery, $10 for 375 ml.

Anyone ever have any odd experiences with Ctayt bottles? I had one this spring that was the weirdest bottled beer experience I've ever had.....really wish I would have written down that batch number and contacted them. I drank the top 2/3 of the bottle and all was well, perfect carbonation and mouthfeel. I put the remaining beer in the fridge and came back to it in a couple hours and something wasn't right. The bottom 1/3 was totally under-attenuated. So rich and syrup like that it was very off-putting (no way the extra time open in the fridge could have done this massive of a change). Never before have I run into something like this. The two servings were like night and day in terms of carb/body/mouthfeel. I don't know enough about brewing science to know what could possibly cause this. I'd be one thing if the whole bottle was like syrup, but only part of it?
Wondering if I just got a bizarre bottle or if anyone else has run into this?
