Which shops/ grocery stores should I hit in...?

Beyond Beertopia there really isn't much of a need to stop elsewhere although you might find something we have sold out of at the Stonybrook Hy-Vee out west or Cubby's (a gas station with a surprisingly good beer selection) on 12th and Jackson.

In Des Moines, go to Fleur Hy-Vee since you will be going to El Bait Shop no doubt. Since you will be taking I-35 north you might as well go to the Prairie Trail Hy-Vee in Ankeny too. Could be worth popping into Cyclone Liquors in Ames too.

Oh yeah, might want to stop at the Mall of the Bluffs Hy-Vee in Council Bluffs just on the other side of the river from Omaha. Exit 5 on I-80.

 

Rather than start a new thread.... I'll be heading to Denison Iowa by way of Omaha. Is there anything on my way that would be a worthy stop? It looks like my route will take me on 80 to 680 and then 29 to hwy 30. I thought there might be something along the route in Omaha or in Iowa that would be closer than swinging over to beertopia.... Thanks!

For des moines el bait shop is a must stop. Also make the extra drive for prarie trail hyvee in ankeny it's worth the trip.

I don't know of anything in that area, I didn't see your post until I responded to the op.

 

most hy-vees have a wide selection of beers you will be surprised to see still on shelves. Only problem is that, in my experience, most are IPAs at the end or just past their shelf life. I took a chance on a couple Chasin Freshies last week that were way past their prime.

Beertopia is the best experience I've had in downtown omaha. You might not find something you know but the guys behind the counter will show you something that wont disappoint.
