For what it's worth, the convo I overheard was about Rare specifically.

Just left Binnys in LP and they had a few cases of regular left behind the counter limit of 4. Jewel on Southport as of 8am had a few bottles of regular left and a case or two of BW.

Binny's Lakeview had cases of reg (limit 4) and two or three cases of BW (limit 2) 10 min before closing last night.

I'm going to talk about my feelings for a moment, because this seems like the appropriate forum to do so. The "second wave" made the Black Friday release seem pretty ridiculous (imo). I waited for an hour and a half at a binnys on that Friday morning to get 2 bottles of regular and a bottle of BW. I'm not complaining, I was content with that, knowing that there was a limited supply. Then yesterday I walk into a store and am able to buy everything (but prop, of course)? People could buy cases of regular and bw, which were then replaced by more cases. Why not supply more on Black Friday? It left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, which is fine, because I now have a regal in my fridge that will replace it.

Is it me, or should coffee be renamed "Bourbon County Brand RARE Coffee Stout"
And we should rename Rare to "Goose Island Somewhat Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout" ?

Anyone know of any places in the Downers Grove/Williwbrook/Hinsdale/Westmont area that still have it?

It seems fairly clear that the inclusion of the word "Rare" within Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout is not intended to be indicative of the availability (or lack thereof) of the beer itself. Rather it is descriptive of the barrels which were used to age the beer. From the Goose Island site itself, "Barrels past 25 years old in the Bourbon Industry are not common". If they had found 1 of these barrels, 200 barrels or even more, it doesn't change the statement that locating barrels past 25 years old is "rare". GI came across an uncommon find. Breweries love to use the words "rare" or "limited" to get consumers into a tizzy (i.e., FOMO) and GI sure has exceeded here as well but I think GI has been clear as to why this beer is named "Rare" and it is not due to bottle count.

Oh yeah - agree on all of this. Our group was just joking about the ironic nature of the name and the perception that it would be hard to get, when Coffee was/is still difficult to get.

I was just at Binnys Orland Park a half hour ago and they had Rare, Prop, and Regal in the back room. Regular and Barleywine are on the floor in front of customer service.

I called, the guy sounded like he didn't have a clue and said the only thing left was reg. and BW. He actually said they never got a second shipment of Prop. I'd be interested to know if anybody picks one up from them after I type this message.
