LA is a big place. Specific location? Transportation?

Hi Anthony! I see that you are pretty new here. In the top right corner of the page there's a search function that you may find helpful. It will lead you to threads like this: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-los-angeles.217487/

That thread is a bit older now, but I think you'll still find the info quite helpful. Believe it or not, many people have visited LA and asked for help finding good spots that have good brews - it's one of our main functions here! - and so there are a whole lot of threads containing the info you're looking for. You don't even need to take the time to type! Pretty cool, huh?

Beeradvocate.com also has a fun tool called The Beer Guide, where you can bring up a city and find reviews for all of the places in that city. What a world! Here, let me show you where it is: http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/city/9/

If you want to get there on your own, you can just click the Places tab along the main directory bar, just below the BeerAdvocate logo. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a lovely day!

Wow -- big middle finger from the locals. Nice.
I haven't been in a year and haven't looked at the LA places info in awhile -- but for me -- I'd recommend a few places. The original Fathers Office in SM is real cool. The burger is legendary and tap list solid. Tony's Darts Away in Burbank is my #2 LA beer spot. All CA draft list I think and sausage sandwiches/subs the best south of Rosemunde in SF. If you like cask ale -- hit the Daily pint -- also in Santa Monica. Other good spots -- each real unique -- Beachwood seal beach; wurstkuche (couple of locations -- more of a European tap list -- outrageous sausage..I like sausage); surly goat in west Hollywood and a cool spot in echo park I can't remember the name of. Cool old theater converted to a beer hall. Best of luck!!

When in LA, I personally recommend "Search".

Tony's, Mohawk or any of the places you listed Chipawayboy are great. But the problem usually falls into that folks want to create threads like this simply to find Pliny to take back home. I mean, I don't think I've beeen to tony's on a day that Pliny hasn't been flowing.

In any case, I don't think it's a middle finger from the locals if this topic is done to death that at this point the search function would be a better help than us just rehashing the same tips over and over again when this thread is posted every other week for traveling folks.

La is also freaking huge. Going cross town can take you a hour plus. So some guidance on where you are located is really important.

I get it -- I just thought it was humerous how quickly and completely OP was mocked/scolded by the Pacific crowd. Compare and contrast to this thread from a few days ago in NE forum: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/help-from-neasterners.368926/ Is it because OP has a cute avatar and seemed 2% more informed that she was greeted w a ton of good/personal suggestions? have a lovely day!

if the op had provided a bit more info (location, length of stay, dates, familiarity), he would have received a better response. It's annoying to have to do the work someone could easily have done themselves by using the search function. The same thing would have happened on any other enthusiast forum.

Not only that but the third post did have a link with a bunch of information. Was the tone of the post sarcastic? Perhaps. But there's a pretty good link in there regardless.

    Here's my advise:
    1. Load the BA app on your phone.
    2. Use the map function, and move the map to where you are staying.
    3. See whats nearby
    4. Read the reviews of the nearby places.

Not sarcasm, not a middle finger, just practical advise on how to find places worth a visit no mater where you find yourself.

I think what we are trying to say is.... Learn how to fish, instead of asking for fish.

If the mods would just allow the "Visiting LA, Visiting SF, Visiting SD" threads to be bookmarked this wouldn't be a weekly daily post on here. Also when someone asks such vague effortless questions they deserve just as much time put into their answers. They could of said where specifically in LA, what days they are going, if they have transportation, what types of beers they like, etc...

If you have transportation, go to Sunset Beer or Ramirez Beverage Center. Each is about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown.

Within downtown there's the new Whole Foods at 8th/Grand, Buzz at 5th/Spring (overpriced, but decent selection), Weird Beers on 7th between Broadway and Spring (small, random selection), or Jason's Wine & Spirits at 9th/Main behind the bank (check the dates on anything hoppy).

Buzz is typically about a buck or two over the price you're used to paying for a beer, but considering the location, that's to be expected.

I second just making your way on Olympic and getting over to Ramirez. They have a new in door burger window that... well, it makes picking up some beer even better.

Thanks guys. I did check out weird beers. And, it was definitely weird. I did see whole foods and think I will head that way this morning and try to get to those other places you mentioned.
