Just got back from Hardywood... For those that don't know, today they released Kentucky Christmas Morning & Apple Brandy GBS.

Originally they put a 2 bottle limit on each variant. Well, a couple days ago, they increased it to SIX per variant, for whatever reason.

So, we show up at 1pm today and the bottles start selling at 2pm. From what I understand, that's very reasonable for a Hardywood release considering all of the other GBS variants don't even sell out the first day.

4pm rolls around, and we're still waiting in line in the cold and windy weather. One of the employees comes around and tells us they sold out of the Kentucky Christmas Morning after waiting in line for THREE hours and after they increase their bottle limit by THREE TIMES. There were still hundreds of people in line.

Yeah, of course bottles at all beer releases run out at some point and that's when you can use the excuse "You should have shown up earlier." But after increasing the limit by THREE FUCKING TIMES that excuse is no longer valid.

I'm just venting, but this is a picture perfect example of how NOT to run a beer release event.

I haven't been to a release of that scale bit damn, I'd probably be pissed too. If they had more stock than they thought would sell I feel like it would have made more sense to keep the 2 bottle limit and then put it all up for grabs after the fact, or tell people they could get back in line for 2 more after buying the first 2 or something.

One would think that if they increased it by that much that they would have a shit ton of bottles on hand to satisfy a crowd of that size! Not that I have gone to a bottle release like that, but damn why would they increase it by that size; normally the posts I see on facebook about bottle releases list the allowable purchase to be 2-3 bottles.

Sorry to hear you, more or less, wasted your time.

That's a bummer man. How many people do you think got that KY Xmas variant? Was everyone walking out with 6 a piece? Hopefully at least you got a few bottles of the other one for your trouble but that's some BS

@PattyLighttt I feel your Frustration. With the ongoings of the Beer World this issue is going to rise again and again.
There's going to be breweries that miscalculate the amount of Customer Attendance and how much Inventory they have to offer. Like you said previously that most of the Variants don't Sell Out that first Day. Maybe they went by that revenue history and that's why they changed the Limit Per Variant. It's a bummer but at the end of the day, they're human and cannot please everyone.

With this being a double release of an already special release beer, you should have been in line earlier. Seems like you were feed bad information. On some releases yes it's possible to get full allotments the next day or later in the day. But like I said this release was different and they also put out information with the allotment increase with plenty of time.

It's hard to tell, since everything was being packed in the cardboard bomber boxes. I'd guess the majority of people got the full 6, but it's definitely safe to say that everyone was getting more than the original limit of 2.

It just sucks. I had a cup of it on draft, it was so fucking good...

I was also at Hardywood today and left without the Kentucky Christmas Morning in hand. I am from Richmond and a loyal customer to Hardywood for some time. I have NEVER seen a release like this before... what a mess. I arrived around 1230 (release technically starts at 2) and was told at 330 that they no longer had KY for sale! I waited for over 4 hours outside in the cold. My biggest complaint is the RANDOM determination to increase bottle purchases from 2 to 6 of each variant this week. I saw people walking out with cases of the variants early in the day, while HUNDREDS of people behind me were left empty handed. Talk about a poor business decision to increase by THREE times the amount per customer of each variant! I talked to people that were around me that drove from Maryland, Pennsylvania, D.C., etc. that were unable to get their beers. Hardywood has a better reputation than this... too bad today was a big let down and will impact ongoing support from their loyal customers.

But don't you think that if they chose to increase the limit, then they should be able to support it? At least increase it to 3, or 4 bottles, but 6? That's my issue here. They were going to sell just fine with the 2 limit, with no complaints. It's just mind boggling to me.

I can understand being upset, but I wouldn't call selling a crap-load of beer in a shorter period of time (presumably) a poor business decision. If the beer is as good as advertised, I doubt the lines will be shorter next time.

2 would have served more people yes. If they went to 4 some people would still get shut out. For me if I want to get the beer I want I get there early. I showed up late for the 1st trickery release and got shut out. Since then I get there early. If there isn't a line I go grab breakfast if there is I grab my chair and get in line.

Don't be that guy. Beer is a hobby/passion for most of us here. There are varying degrees of dedication to every hobby. Just because you don't get it doesn't mean you need to admonish someone else for it.

    ^ This.

It sucks for those who traveled from afar and missed out, but someone at Hardywood realized it was going to be a shitshow and decided they would rather get it over with quicker

When they pre-arrange a release like this, not a silent release, and you have a ton of people in line and you've upped the bottles per limit, it is a dick move by Hardywood, despite whether or not they made good money today. The bottles were all going to sell regardless, so they shouldn't of upped the limit. They knew people were going to go crazy for Apple Brandy GBS and Kentucky Christmas Morning. Amateurs. Sorry about your morning, hopefully you got some bottles of AB GBS.

Fine, but if you go and don't come away with a haul, "there's no bitching in craft beer" or something like that.....

It wasn't just about the bottles. Had a lot of shit on draft, there were food trucks and music, spent some time with some old family and friends, and Hardywood is just an awesome environment. You're way off.

With all those guys in line and they knew how much beer that had , should have kept it to 2. You can't please everyone, but they could have pleased more from guys who expected to get 2 bottles. Sorry IMO it was a poor job.
