Bad trader: @thebrewbrotha

It's pretty hard to tell exactly what happened here, but it seems like @TheBrewBrotha 's basic story is:

• Didn't agree to trade (in spite of providing his address for some reason)
  
  
• Ended up being out of town when package was set to ship (and didn't communicate this to trade partner because something something lost phone)
  
  
• Never received box and that it must have been stolen off his porch
  
  
• Willing to send a "consolation" box since OP was now out of beer (since it was supposedly stolen and cannot be returned), but will not send the entire box that was originally owed because, remember guys, it's not his fault the box was stolen.
  
  
• Also mentions how the agreed upon trade resulted in him getting less than "other trades" were getting for his promised beers, in spite of that fact being completely and utterly irrelevant to the issue at hand.
  
  
• Received the exact same thing in trade from "another person" (in spite of being out of town, as previously mentioned)
  
  
• Prematurely posted the picture of the supposed other trade, using a picture that the other trader had supposedly sent him prior to actually shipping because obviously he was out of town and couldn't have received the box yet...

Do I have all that right? Because when you read it all out like that it looks like a massive, steaming pile of bullshit. We have a lost phone excuse, an out-of-town excuse, a stolen box excuse, a overvalued trade excuse, and a not-often-used "I got that same haul from a different trader who sent me a picture so I don't actually have the beer yet" excuse that was necessary to resolve the inconsistency about not being around to receive OP's box, but apparently being around to receive the Other Trader's box--I mean, no that wasn't an actual box, just a picture.

On a certain level, I understand why OP is handling this the way he is, because his trade partner certainly doesn't inspire confidence and being conciliatory may be the only way he gets ANYTHING in return for his lost crowlers.

Honestly, I'm skeptical that @TheBrewBrotha is going to return to this thread, as he was super quick to continue his interaction with OP in the private conversations when that option was offered. And it looks like he is going to get away with this shit since he won't accept a trade request to receive negative feedback, and there's no real way to prove that his bullshit story is bullshit, so no action can really be taken against him by BA (at least I don't think so--would love to be proven wrong by the mods on that front).

One thing's for sure: this BT thread is one of the more bizarre ones I've seen recently.

 

Another shining example of why you shouldn't ship until a trade request has been accepted. Yes, things can still go wrong but its the best safeguard we have here. OP, I feel for your as I'm sure you were excited to get the trade done, but I have a feeling you'll be more cautious next time

TheBrewBrotha has not yet provided verification there ever was another trade for exactly the same beers. He's done NOTHING to establish that the Ten Fidy crowlers he was showing off weren't rec'd from Patrick_Rosen. He's ignored requests for the mystery trader's user name which is highly suspect. That info should have been immediately forthcoming to be credible.

He has posted that he cares too much to see his rep suffer over these beers. However, he's shown nothing but a cavalier disregard for the OP & the BA community.

@TheBrewBrotha seeing is believing. Give us, especially your trade partner, something real that will protect your rep.

 

Bottom line is that TheBrewBrotha is now a trade with caution guy. The story my smell fishy but it looks like the OP is okay with the result. Afterall he has agreed to take a 2JK bottles. Also it is not like he is out any whales. I can get a crowler of 10 fidy at my local ABC. We dont need to skewer either of these guys any longer.

TheBrewBrother has expalined himself more than most targets of BT threads. Spend your energy on the ones that are not responding or end up being jerks.

 

I have to agree with @LambicPentameter - this wiffs of every excuse in the book.

If a box doesn't arrive with all promised bottles I would hope this is banable behaviour. Clearly a trader looking to game the system and exploit the BA trade forums

@JavaNoire Hey Java, and no we never set up a trade. I believe he messaged me twice on different occasions months back. Saying he had what I was looking for then disappeared when the beer in question was garnering higher trade value, so he went on my DNT list for poor communication, shadiness and wasting my time. so of course he doesn't remember me.

It wasn't Ten Fidy. It was Bour Bean Ten Fidy. Can you just go grab crowlers of that? Nope.

He's agreeing to 2 bottles because he wants to get SOMETHING out of this shady deal, not because thats what he actually wants. What are his other options?

And I didn't realize you could only be a Bad Trader if you robbed people of walez. Good to know going forward (eye roll)

 

@FrankenMiller TheBrewBrotha has spun tales but he hasn't satisfactory explained himself. That would require some proof of the oh so convenient coincidences he's strung together. No proof has been forthcoming.

Naming the other trader that TheBrewBrotha claims he did an identical trade with would have been simple. He should have provided that info immediately. It's disturbing that he's ignored such an easy request, especially given the wild series of coincidences he's asked everyone to swallow.

There are no pitchforks. Everyone has been remarkably civil & reasonable. Patrick_Rosen wants his beer, and deserves to get it, the beer that was agreed to, all of it. There's nothing wrong with that. Would you feel differently if you were in his position?

 

IF TheBrewBotha flakes on this, is there anyone who can get the OP those bottles? If so, I'll send that person 3 de Garde fruit beers to help offset the loss.

 

If I were sitting on a jury for this one, the mountain of circumstantial evidence would be more than enough for me to deliver a guilty verdict. The accused taking the stand in his defense was the real clincher for me with his extremely flimsy alibi.

As this is not a jury trial, I'll just add @TheBrewBrotha to my own Do Not Trade list. Hope he comes through for you OP, methinks he enjoyed the BA Ten Fidys you sent his way.

Given that the guy is using the same handle on Reddit, blogspot, twitter and Instagram (and probably other places too) I am a bit surprised there isn't more of an explanation forthcoming - it isn't like the guy is hard to find...

@TheBrewBrotha - there are some epic level coincidences that merit some explanation - if you really did get an identical trade lined up in parallel, then it shouldn't be a big deal to post the details...

 

What harm, exactly, has come to the bad trader here? If by "mob mentality" you mean most people have agreed that the presented half-story sounds sketchy as hell, then yeah, I guess we're a mob.

To me, stealing bottles with a wacky story and appearing in a bad trader thread to present said wacky story is no better than stealing bottles in silence. Obviously in this case it's hard to get absolute proof than none of the wacky things presented actually happened, but in the courtroom of my mind, this guy is stealing whatever bottles from the original agreed-upon trade he ends up failing to deliver, no matter the stated reason.

 

@pagriley It's not a big deal unless you're scrambling for a buddy to cover for you. It's info that should have been offed up asap.

Good on this.means get you the beers he originally agreed to send. IF he fails to do that then I'll send the dG to whoever can take care of you. IF nobody can do that I'll send them to you, assuming you like dG.

 

Oh agreed - the attitude, and the fairly preposterous string of coincidences makes me think this is utter crap... I am open to being wrong, but so far it doesn't look like any reasonable explanations are forthcoming, although I am willing to wait a day or 2 and see if a box appears. Interestingly, you don't need to be a registered member of BA to click a link and read these forums... you know, for example if you happen to tweet a link or post to FB everyone could read it...

Yeah its very weird with this guys social media presence he has not been more forthcoming if his story is indeed correct. Other people had mentioned him trying to "win" trades in the past, has this been a trend with this guy?
