It's not as good as the Pliny in your avatar, I'll give you that, but it's better than 90% of the stuff on the shelves here on the east coast.

I would have to trade for it. Grey Sail don't distribute here. Yet, it's on my radar, thank you for the Recommendation. I love a good resinous hop profile.

When I here "West Coast style" Pliny, Knee deeps Simtra, Stone's Ruination come to mind and those SA IPA's taste nothing like them. East coast has heady and SOS and those are delicious. Cheers sir

    Ask and you shall receive...

Definitely not one of those "chunky" IPAs, but quite hazy/turbid nonetheless. Couldn't see through this one at all.

I'll start by saying I did not like this beer, and I dig many Sam Adams beers, certainly not a "hater". This isn't one of those super fruity chunky IPAs, and it wasn't Enjoy By either. To my palate at least, this was overly bitter, with not much of a malt backbone going on. I like IPAs that are more piney/bitter, but the lack of malt character made the bitterness unpleasant. I find Celebration to be this way, but Sierra Nevada always comes through with a pleasant caramel malt characteristic that blends perfectly with the bitterness.

Being 10%, and incredibly fresh/hoppy, it drove this beer well out of balance. Even if it was cheaper I wouldn't buy this one again, but at $20/4 pack I'm glad I tried my single and I'll move on. I applaud Sam Adams for the effort, but much like Rebel IPA, this was one of the few hoppy beers I wouldn't even label as average.

At 10% ABV, I might cellar one of my cans.

Almost exactly how I felt. I think SA does more good beers than bad and I was rooting hard for this one to be great, but I didn't finish the can I bought. It's way too sweet in a way that clashes really bad with the bitterness. Hopefully it's an evolving project. There's no reason they won't be able to get it right eventually if the mediocre public feedback to heart.

Tons of caramel and boozy. Bitter with no discernable hop flavors. Just a jumbled mess that clashed with all the sweet caramel malt.

Kind of hard for anyone to have thought you were talking about the other breweries' year round stuff when you're saying you wish they'd do what BBC doing is with rebel raw. Rebel raw is a one off (they literally brewed one batch) that even BBC isn't 100% sure about what they're going to do with it in the future (at least according to Jim Koch in interviews following Rebel Raw's release).

I think you'll find Sierra Nevada is still making some excellent beers.

"was able to pick up a 4 pack of cans tonight, had my first one and enjoyed it a lot.. More than the beer though, I find it exciting that a large brewer like Sams is willing to shake up what's been a pretty stale product line trying something new. And what's wrong with them competing against the likes of Stone and others, it will only make for better beer. I hope others like Harpoon, Long Trail, Sierra and some of the others will follow suit because frankly their beers aren't anywhere near what they were 20 years ago."

    Was this a serious post?
