Goose Island Sour Sisters

I loved Gillian fresh in 2013. So much white pepper and strawberry and the acidity didn't overpower either. It wasn't quite as good a year later, unless you prefer the bugs to take over and the additives to take a back seat.

For the money, I think RR's are probably better, although of what I've personally tried, GI sours are two of the top three. But I really thought Lolita and Madame Rose were a little disappointing. Not bad beers by any stretch of the imagination, but not as good as what I was expecting based on reputation.

My personal order:

Gillian > Supplication > Halia > Consecration = Juliet > Lolita > Madame Rose > Sanctification

 

Actually a little surprised they aren't higher. The Halia I had at Fulton was $35 I believe, and cost more if you wanted to take it to go. Still, at $30 these beers aren't worth it.

I'd take Juliet over the rest of the sisters by a decent margin.

I grabbed a Lolita from the BG Binnys the other day. If anyone sees Juliet or Halia in the NW burbs I'd appreciate a heads up as I'd like to try both of those! Thanks!

I personally think that at $17-18 for a 765ml Lolita is pretty decent value.

Also agree that the RR sours are very good and tend to be more complex. But the effort to get them over what is available isn't always worth it.

 

Probably not much help to you, but a friend of mine from a FB group I'm in posted a picture of 2015 Halia that they bought retail in Colorado (not sure where in CO though).

At the very least, it is theoretically available for purchase in retail stores.

 

According to BM, Jim's Liquors in Mundelein has them both @ 23.99.

 

Ive seen it in Madison as well, a week or two ago some places said they just got it in. I can't verify that it is 2015 since I haven't checked, but I assume it is (unless they are just now sending out old bottles)

 

This makes the Fulton St taproom an absolute fucking joke. These are far more reasonable prices for the bottles than the prior only way to get them to go (Fulton). We paid $35 for Halia. Unbelievable.

 

Just hit up Jim's in Mundelein. They have all the sisters. Weird that a little place in Mundelein has them all and nowhere in the city did.

 

Jim's had everything but Halia just now. Lady said they had it but was gone before it made it to the shelves.

 

Bought and drank a 2013 Lolita and 2014 Madame rose over the last 2 days. Little disappointed in the Lolita, thought the Madame rose was outstanding

 

A buddy of mine got the last Juliet at LP Monday around at 12:35 (according to the receipt). He knew I needed it to finish off my sisters collection. Sorry about that. You can get one at GI Fulton St. on Saturdays for $35.
