What beer are you drinking now? #1160

Two words: Drain pour

 

Going lighter for beer #2. This comes across as an okay session IPA at this point, as I didn't check the dates (bad BA form, there ) - BB October 2015. Might explain why it was in the grocery store and not at my bottle shop. Too bad, I wanted to review it so I had more insight than the straight 4 I gave it years ago. Oh, well.

 

I'm up super early here, seems Cap'n Biscuit (our 21# cat) decided to bust through the screen and try to climb on the window unit outside our window. We live on the 2nd floor... From last night, decided to smoke another shoulder, low and slow for 7 hours. Haven't had any yet, but I know it'll be great tonight for Christmas Eve.


While I was waiting on this to finish, I enjoyed a Central Waters 17, Aeropressed with some Blue Bottle Coffee I was given. The Aeropress gave it a nitro like look and mouthfeel. I already really liked 17, but the coffee just made it even better!


Next was a local favorite. While I've already enjoyed this off tap here, to me, the cans have always been a little light on the coconut. So, I toasted some and Aeropressed it! Like a mounds bar! FYI, Maui throughout the year Maui releases Black Pearl. It's their Imp Coconut Porter aged in local rum barrels. It's easily in my top 10 beers of all time that I've had. So freakin' good.


Here's a couple shots of the sunset a couple nights ago. This place is so beautiful, I'm extremely lucky/blessed/fortunate to be here. While the local beer scene is still growing (and getting better), it still has a ways to go. This more than makes up for it.

That's what I did with the root beer, I couldn't choke it down. To me, it tasted like a cheap malt liquor mixed with flat root beer. Not my idea of fun or tasty. I can't imagine that this would be much better.

So I was supposed to work today, but wouldn't you know it a snowstorm came in and turned the roads to deathtraps. Ice underneath + fresh wet snow = not a good time, especially with a 30 minute drive to work in GOOD weather. Tried it twice, called in and said today I'm going to finish wrapping my gifts, have some warming winter beers and listen to Christmas tunes. Best of all? My baby's going to be back in a few minutes!



Here's to turning what could have been a treacherous venture had I gone farther, into a warm and cozy day indoors watching the snow fly out the window.

Same here. I drain-poured their root beer too but I thought I should give them a second chance. This one was really flat (no head whatsoever despite the aggressive pour), sickeningly sweet-smelling (albeit the ginger aspect of the aroma was not too off-putting) and way too sweet taste-wise.

I know that there is a huge fanbase out there for these drinks but for me they are simply undrinkable.

Stopped at a local haunt to get my parents a giftcard (they love their thin crust pizza and get it every Thursday). They had Carton Boat on tap so I obviously grabbed a pint while I waited. It must Christmas, cuz I happened to glance over an see a black billed goose staring back at me...
