Yea that's what it was. It was a sticker on one-can of the IPA 6-pack that had that. All the 6-packs in the fridge were the same date with the single sticker. Their Porter had no sticker

Well they don't have dates on the cans from the brewery or at the distributor, which makes sense cuz they don't seem to last long enough in stores. Unless the stores uses stickers for inventory control.

What store was it that you saw this?

    That's from the 312th day of 2015. So November 8, 2015.

It was Gerrard's Liquor Store in Point Pleasant

    Is this serious?

Yes, it is. Same dating system that Ballast Point uses on their bottles.

Did not know that. Seems weird, but also encouraging to know that the beer is still fresh. It's the actual store who puts that sticker on is what people are saying?

Dating stickers are done by the brewery when the cans are filled.

Bought a 6pk of IPA cans at the brewery around Thanksgiving and the can holder had the "price tag" date on it. So they are dating them at the brewery.

I guess it is only IPA they are dating? I just got a 4 pack of their newly canned Palo Santo Porter and there is no date.

Is that dating system common for breweries? It seems extremely misleading to the average person (myself) who doesn't know to think any differently

I've only seen the date stickers on the IPA

Dating systems vary from brewery to brewery. At least they are putting a date on their IPA. So many breweries don't and that really keeps people from purchasing their products.

"Day of the year" dating - aka incorrectly as "Julian" dating - has long been common in the brewing industry as well as many other industries - including NASA - in the US for decades. It is "universal" in the sense that there is no confusion between US (month/day/year) dating and Euro (day/month/year) dating and it is "mechanically" friendlier - before computers, it was much easier to change the date on machines or even a hand rubber stamp by moving one digit per day - i.e., at midnight on Jan. 31 into Feb. 1 it is easier to move from "031" to "032", as opposed to "1-31" to "2-01". The year, in one or two digits, can be added before or after the day of the year.

Contrary to the beliefs of many, it is not a conspiracy to sell old beer dreamed up recently by "craft" breweries. I've worked for 3 Fortune 500 companies, unrelated to brewing (well, except for all the beer I drank once I got home from work) that all used it, and many business calendars include the "day of year" for every day.

Here's an example from a Pabst date coding booklet from the 1970s:

Palo santo is legit. Drinking one now and I have to say it's Probably best porter I've had. Thanks for canning this spellbound.

As an update, theyre starting to use Citra in their pale ale instead of simcoe.

Also, they'll be canning the pale ale next!

Can't say enough good things about Palo Santo Porter - it is absolutely delicious like all of Spellbound's porters.

Anyone know how much a 4 pack/case of the Palo Santo Porter goes for? I got some cans from a friend and he had no idea.

Pretty sure they're only 8$ a four pack. And man I can't wait for them to can their palest that's true.

Had their Citra yesterday. Really well done. Definitely something I could put in regular rotation.

Growlers fills on anything today. Got buffalo trace porter with vanilla bean, awesome stuff. Can't wait to see what these guys do this coming year. Had to pick up some palo cans as well.
