New beer #2: Breckenridge Silver Salmon.

India Style Pale Lager ... Or imperial pilsener. ABV is not known from my own research.

This is a beer that gives tribute to a small band in Colorado called Leftover Salmon and the bottle comes with a code that allows me to download a new live album from the band appropriately titled "25" ...

Look: Semi-clear golden body with a frothy light cream colored head. Massive sheets of lacing.

Aroma: Grapefruit rind, lemon peel, hop bitterness, lemongrass.

Taste: A really good balance of malt sweetness and tangy, citric hops. There's a lot of lemongrass in here with some white pepper in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Dry, medium to light in body. Crisp.

Overall: A real shift away from all of the Christmas ales and dark beers. 3.98 overall rating. This really is a nice imperial pilsener with all of the classic traits you look for in a good pils. A bit hop-forward for sure with grapefruit and lemongrass.

I love Breckenridge seasonals. Their barrel aged or imperial beers are not anything special to me. This one is good, but would be better any other time of year. I'm really disappointed in Breckenridge selling out, but the people who brew their beer didn't make that decision. This is the brewery who sent me 4 pint glasses for free about 6 years ago when I simply inquired how I can purchase a glass from them in an email. That kind of customer service goes a long way. Those days are long gone, of course. If their quality control remains the same then I will at least continue to drink my favorites from them. But there will always be that annoying little thought in my head that they sold out.

    New American Black Lager Sunday

Helllo all! Unseasonably warm, but overcast and very damp/muggy here in New Jersey today. It is so nice to be back home for the holidays. I can't believe it's been a little over three years since I moved to Milwaukee. Today's beer is a first from this brewery - from a brewery in Jersey called Bolero Snort - Blackhorn. It's a hoppy black lager (listed as an American Black Ale here). I think it's well-made. Dark and hoppy, and lager smooth. I scored it a 3.99 - a bit above the current average of 3.86.
    Here's the link:

Have a good week and Happy New Year! "See" you next week from Milwaukee!

    Ramstein Imperial Pilsner 7% ABV.
IMO Pilsners are not a good beer to go Imperial with but Ramstein is a trusted local brewery so i gave it a try. 7% is a high ABV for a Pilsner but not high for an Imperial anything. In any case this is a nice Pilsner. Beautiful golden body ,white head, full body mouth feel and a nice Nobel Hop finish excellent stuff.

Happy NBS ans cheers to everyone on a fun 2015! I look forward to another great year with all of you.

Today I am enjoying a style that I have not had in some time, American Amber. Milwaukee Brewing Louie's Demise... Poor guy I hope we see him again soon.

The aroma is a rich and malty sweetness of toasted malt, caramel, and some grassy/earthy hops. The flavor is quite malty and is not as sweet as the nose would indicate. Toasted malts with caramel and an equal dose of the hops, fruitiness, and grain. Feel is lighter and has a clean finish with a slight dryness.

Good afternoon NBS, thanks to @cavedave for the kick off and the reminder to share our
thoughts on these fine offerings we are fortunate to be drinking. Misty and warm here in WMass
The holiday weekend wrapped up with our aiding in the move of a family member, Wow I forgot just how
much fun that is. At least everyone was in good spirits and we worked like an ant farm to get this done.
Today these tired bones are enjoying Great Divides Hibernation ale. The product is billed as an English Old Ale.
I thought a bit of body could be added, that really is the only negative for me.
    Cheers all
    Hibernation Ale

    Great Divide Brewing Company
    Old Ale / 8.70% ABV

    3.88/5 rDev -3.7% | Avg: 4.03
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Poured from a can dated 10/15/15 into the modified tulip glass.
A - Deep mahogany in color, translucent and striking with direct light passing through. A loosely constructed froth cap rides the top, supported by a group of glass hugging tiny bubbles.
S - Lightly roasted malts, some dark brown sugar, soaked dark wood, barn cured tobacco leaf. A bit earthy in a good way. Hints of mint and Assam black tea.
T - Slightly sweet, none of that roast gets to the palate. There is some dried dark fruit flavors, fig, a bit of raisin. Caramel and toffee, and light molasses keep the flavor train moving.
M - Heavy medium in body, the coating is thorough and complete, the start is a bit sweet, next comes a quick dry out, with a rine wash cheese kind of finish. A bit thin but that does not take away from he experience.
O - In this world of hops and more hops (not complaining) this offering is a nice treat. The execution is
solid, add some heft to the body and it will be a home run. The malt bill and slightly floral elements are delightful. I will be running out to get some more.

Happy New Beer Sunday BA's, woke up planning to join in on the new beer action only to realize I didn't have any new beers to try, so I ran out and found a few (well see how many I end up trying lol) that I don't know how I never tried. Its been a hectic week as half my family live in Ontario and the other half live here in Montreal, so we've been running back and fourth.

The beer I decided to start with is Mons Abbey blonde, Obviously it's a Belgian abbey inspired strong blonde ale brewed here in Quebec (we do our Belgians right here) This beer pours almost clear with a slight hazy and is a beautiful golden color. I'll let my review do the rest of the talking but it was fairly good. Cheers![IMG]

Appearance - This beer pours a lightly foggy golden color with 2 fingers of sparkling head, It fades leaving a thick film over the top, carbonation seems to be fairly lively but I feel like this style should retain more head than this. overall it looks like a fairly good craft.

Aroma - Apple and pear hit my nose immediately and quite strong. then I get some coriander, light banana and some floral hops. some sweet caramel follows along with some fresh baked bread from the yeast.

Taste - At first theres a mix of flavors, Banana, apple. pear and corriander, then some clove and floral hops bitter it Then the apple returns with the fresh bread reminding me of apple pie.

Feel - Medium light body with creamy yet tingly carbonation, The middle is bitter but the finish is sweet and bready makeing it fairly smooth for the style.

Overall - This is my first offering from Brasserie Belgh Brasse and its a fairly good offering. I've tasted better belgian blondes but the aroma was so enticing and the feel so good for a 5.50$ 750ml it was worth every penny. Try it if you find it!

This brew pours a clear golden color with a great head which sticks around until the end. Lots of lacing and high carbonation; lots of tiny bubbles.

The smell is soapy and grassy mixed with a wheat and grain smell along with bready malts.

The taste follows the nose with lots of grain, lots of bready malt and grass. The bubbles offset some of the dryness of the finish however the finish is dry and grassy but not very gritty. There is a dry aftertaste left in the mouth. Overall I would say that there is not a lot of complexity here but that does not hurt this beer in any way. It is a simple but solid German Pils.

I'm in Lincoln Park - Morris County. I drive up to Warwick and/or Nanuet all the time. Lottsa good beers that don't distro to NJ. In Warwick you have Eddies Roadhouse, Beverage Plus 2 and the Craft beer cellar all within 3 miles of each other. Eddies is great as is Bev plus 2, don't trust Craft Beer cellars beer list though, its not updated regularly and even when it is I've found it to not be very accurate.

Broke out some of my Ohio visit new beers last night, but still have some to talk about today.

First up is PsycoHOPathy from Mad Tree

A little hazy, honey colored and a finger thick head that quickly settled into a thin layer and spotty lacing.

Nose starts out smelling just like a brewery. That may sound sillt, but I mean that rich grainy, thick smell you get when you go into the vessel room or whatever it's called. After that, not much else.

Taste is an immediate rush of pine hop bitter and sweet candy like maltifun.

Starts out thick, stays full bodied and finishes dry.

This one is pretty tasty to be sure.

And now for a brew I picked up a few years ago and cellared, and am just now getting around to: Olde Burnside (CT) Amazing Grace.

Hmm. Not entirely sure what to make of this one. For starters, I had no idea it was barrel aged, but I was getting this odd, off flavor on the back end, similar to rum. I looked up the entry, and it turns out they age this in different kinds of barrels each year.

    Now that makes sense!

Otherwise, this is a slightly woody, sour, overripe fruit-flavored take on a Scotch ale. It's certainly not bad, but I would definitely like to try it fresh; at this point, the barrel has faded to the point that it's difficult to pin down (although I might still lean toward rum).

Interesting brew from a semi-local brewer. Cheers!

    New RIS Sunday
    Greetings one and all,
SCMN is in the middle of seasonable weather with the 20's lately. It was a brown Christmas day (I guess 1 in 4 is, which seems like a contrast to the image of a Minnesota Christmas), but in addition the the < 1 inch we got yesterday, all are gearing up for 6 -10 inches tomorrow and then winter will be here in earnest. No complaining here though we already shortened winter by at least one month (reminder: it's not the cold or snow it's the damn length that makes winters so hard here).
Well we survived all the big festivities with the apex being yesterday with hosting my in-laws. The grand dog it thoroughly pooped out from it all.
On to probably my first beer today. Going old school and British. A classic RIS.
I like how the last few drops darken the head and leave their mark.
Classic this is. A bit thin by our standards but still a nice feel. Alcohol well hidden, but felt in the gut and a ping in the pre-frontal cortex. Nice dark fruit without excess, smooth and soft roast.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/664/12873/?ba=garymuchow
I think I'll be back later. At least there is a good chance.

Louie is back and better than ever in Louie's Resurrection! :grinning: The aroma is a rich and quite malty with melted caramel, toffee, hints of vanilla and even bourbon and dried fruit. The flavor is also quite malty with big caramel and toffee notes. The bourbon is a nice light compliment along with the vanilla and dried fruit. Feel is medium, rich and full of soft carbonation. They really ramped up the malts to create this big, sweet bomb. Cheers!

    Happy New Beer Sunday!

Been running around all morning...Finally Home watching the Carolina game which I thought was gonna be a blowout but looks like it might be worth watching!

Decided on a style I don't have much experience with ..barleywines.
Just never appealed to me much..
Probably should have started my experience with a simple Bigfoot.

But here we are with New Belguims Lip Of Faith Series- Blackberry Barley Wine
Not going to write a real review since I don't have much experience with the style so it wouldn't be very fair.

Pours a deep ruby red sweet tea kinda color tiny head that turned into a ring around the glass
Has a super nice strawberry-blackberry smell with some oak and maybe raisins?
Immediately but only for a second I get tones of blackberry flavor fading to a oak red wine taste some darker fruit comes at the end.
    Juicy yet dry mouthfeel? Lol
Glad I tried it it's a decent beer as a barleywines not so sure ...but like I said I need to try some more to get a better idea of where this one is at.

Cool bottle tho as with all the lips of faith stuff:astonished:

Be back later with another beer I'm pretty excited about!

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Tired only begins to describe how I feel right now. Thirsty definitely adds to proper reportage. And this beer is, pardon me for saying, hitting the fucking spot.

Great beer, that is so full of conundrums, it smells different than it tastes, it is full flavored with a kick ass bitter hop finish, but it drinks light and refreshing, it has lots of resin in the finish, but it seems not to build, and it stays clean. Really well made and super tasty. My review. Thanks Glenn for the recommend.

See ya in a bit. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!
