Meh, oh well, I guess i have never caught a whale. I can agree with what @SteveSexton203 is saying. I have had some damn good beers that I had some difficulty obtaining though!

This is true in a way, but isn't that what a whale is. Something hard to obtain that you desire. I have a personal whale list that I would like to try and it is different for every BA. Yes, for a some (or a lot) of BAs, the top 250 is the whale list because getting Heady or Pliny in Minnesota is impossible unless trading or traveling. And yes, there are also certain "whale lists" that people follow: blue, white, ghost whale lists, but everyone has a personal whale list and I think that is the meaning of the thread.

Yes my OP was with regards to each person's individual whales, not necessary the top 250 or ultra rare stuff or trying to be any sort of show off "look at me" type post. It can be a local beer that has been elusive, maybe only comes out in limited supply at your brewery and you keep missing it each year, or a standard lineup beer from a nano-brewery far away. Or it could be the usual rare stuff that people stand in line for, chase trucks, visit a European country like most people seem to be mentioning. It can be what it is specific to you.

I saw someone earlier mentioned Pilsner Urquell in a can. That is one I'm still searching for and haven't seen anywhere.
Also another one that I finally got to try that had a lot of buzz over last few years was Narangansett. It lived up to the hype and was quite solid (for an AAL, it was one of the best I've had).

today I got my hands on some of the Knee Deep lineup:
    Citra Extra Pale Ale
    Breaking Bud IPA
    Lupulin River IIPA
    Hoptologist DIPA

They had Simtra TIPA but I had to pass this time since the bomber was $10.99, I'll grab it next time.

(not sure if these are considered whales normally, but right now in CT they sure as hell are)
