I get together on a monthly basis with a cool group of local guys I met on BA. The group can be as small as four but generally we are six of us. We meet at a centrally located craft bar with a decent tap list. We bring in our bottles that we are going to share and give them to a bartender who keeps them behind the bar. She then opens and pours our beers throughout the afternoon. She washes all of our glassware between pours and does a great job of providing service to our group.

I usually buy a round from the tap list to start and end our tasting. My question is this, how would you tip the bartender for her service?

I personally tip her per pour plus the normal tip for the rounds of draft. So, in a sense, I am tipping her as if each beer I drank were from the house taps.

    I appreciate any insight.

    Proost!

I think each of you should tip her $10.

Yeah, you need to go above and beyond normal tipping.

I normally share the beer with the bartenders or bring in some special bottles they can keep.

I agree that you need to go above the normal tipping, how much above depends upon how long you stay at the bar.

We do share beer with her that she is interested in.

That is a pretty awesome service - I think $10 per person is pretty good - that is $60 total so seems like a solid tip for looking after your table for 3 or more hours.

I generally don't tip per round but tip overall based on service and total bill.

How many bottles do you guys get through? 10? More? If you were only there a few hours and drink 6 of your own bombers then 10 bucks each is pretty generous. If you are there 5 or 6 hours and knock off 12 or 15 bombers then it is a bit cheap.

If you bought the bombers from the bar would you normally tip 10-15%? Is it table service ( so then more 15-18% tip)? Perhaps guestimating how much the beers would have cost to buy (2x shelf price for a bar price) and tip on that total? Just a random idea

How many beers does she end up serving you? If she serves you 4 beers the very least you should tip is the amount you would leave on a 4 beer tab.

We each bring one bomber or two 12 oz beers. This works out to about a four ounce pour. We are there for three and half hrs.

Yes, tip beyond what you would normally tip. I would probably tip $20.

Sounds like you guys are pretty low maintenance and don't take up much of her time. I would think if you tipped a buck each per round (so $6 each if you bring your usual 1 bottle per) then tipped normally for the rounds you order on draft you are being pretty generous. Above and beyond what she would get serving anyone else most likely

$20 myself, but then again I am in NYC. The ability to do a bottle share at a bar to me would easily be worth $20 to me.

Ahh yep for sure in NYC the tip would be higher than elsewhere. Makes sense. I think OP is in Indiana, so probably less there I would assume.

I would throw $20 a piece, but I'm in Cali and finding space to do shares or a place that is cool with it.

Even though it's not wine, some places would charge you a corkage fee for this service. I would get an idea of what this might be in your area - or even said bar - and go by this.

But other suggestions are solid as well. $10 each seems reasonable if you don't go the corkage route.

I normally tip based on the time spent vs. the dollar spent. For 3.5 hours, I would tip at least $10. If you are the only ones in the bar, I might tip more.

I have a similar situation. If your spending 3+ hours there I would give $10 for the bar stool and $10 for pouring/rinsing.
