I would give her between 40-70, depending on her service and what you are drinking. Remember, you are bringing your own and she is pouring them for you. Take care of the bartender to insure that this will continue as a great time for all to be had !!

I am assuming you mean the group tips her $40-$70?

I'd agree with what some others have said, and I'd say you've hit the solution I'd recommend for what your group is doing.

Your group is taking up space, time and service on which the bar itself isn't making any income since you provide the beer, but otherwise the bartender is doing exactly what you'd be expecting if the beer came from what is stocked at the bar.

A somewhat similar situation is if you happen to be a regular at some bar/eatery that sends you a birthday card worth $10 off of a meal. When you use that card to get the discount on the meal your server isn't doing any less work than if you were paying full freight and so should be tipped as you normally would on the total bill rather than the discounted price.

BTW, As an additional thought, have you given any consideration to occasionally leaving a bottle of something nice for the owner as a way of saying "thank you" for the use of the space and facilities?

A buck per person per pour sounds about right as a general rule.

I also agree that if each person tipped her $10 that would be a nice tip!

We have a FANTASTIC bottle/CAN shop locally that routinely lets us do bottle shares of both small & voluminous quantities (the latter with advance notice & approval). Two guidelines: 1) Buy some of their wares, either to open or for take-away & 2) Share widely: fellow customers; the owners; passers-by; whomever, but do not exclude anyone present. At the end, the tip jar overflows and ppl walk away shaking their heads at the wealth of great beer that was just laid on them. Percentages to not really apply. We just figure that whatever we saved out of pocket should go to ownership & staff at some level. Join us sometime!

A Partagas or two for the Bar tender is also a nice touch.

A group tip at $10 a person would be nice, your mostly self service and your taking up space where other people can come and go as well.

This. Though I'm also from NY and usually a pretty generous tipper.

She's providing a really cool service for you guys. She should be compensated accordingly.

Double the normal tip, per beer, at least. If your aren't buying anything but their beer and
using their services (she washes your glassware!), you are taking up valuable space. More importantly, though: does she bend the caps? If so, this just might affect my tip.

We sit at a corner of the bar, and the place is often near empty when we are there. I think we may be the reason she works that Sunday afternoon.

It is the bar's glassware, but nonetheless, she washes them between pours. And she does not bend the bottle caps.

I would tip well over the normal 20%. I'm sure a lot of bartenders would not do that for you if you came in to their bar. Also depending on state laws this may be illegal and I would get the owners approval before you continue.

I think you're fine with $10-15 per person..and your recent post makes it pretty clear that you're doing this at a day and time when the place will be empty.
