Twin Cities Bottle Hunt

I tried it this weekend. I generally like beers that are sweet/syrupy, and I thought it was okay but not great. Not much barrel presence at all, and not much balance in the flavor profile (all sweet). I thought it was nice to try but not something I would go back for again.

I could see where many people would find it to be too sweet and one-dimensional and dislike it, so the range of scores does not surprise me. Even a bit more wood/barrel presence to add to the complexity would have improved it for me.

 

I picked up 12/02 today from Total Wine Maple Grove. If I wasn't grabbing some Lift Bridge too I would have swung by Costco as they had some earlier this week and are a little cheaper. Top Valu in Columbia Heights and St Anthony Village both had the December cans when I stopped there yesterday.

There must be a mole a Nova. I was in chatting with them recently and they had people lined up when they received TG Assassin even though they didn't announce that they received any. Glad they consistently receive awesome and rare beers, but unless I get on the cool kid list, I will always miss out.

A blind taste test and wouldn't know it was barrel aged. I thought it was good but not something I would pay for again at the price point unless it has a bigger barrel presence next time. I'd say an average vanilla and toasty chocolate stout. I didn't think it was too sweet or cloying in any way. It's a good beer if you like vanilla beers, which I do.

 

Bought one for $12.99, and i read that this will be year round from them. Thought that the BA could have been stronger but it was there for sure along wood,vanilla and chocolate roasted malts, was not overly sweet, and thought that it was balanced nothing stood out, would say its worth a try for sure. Would not pay $12.99 in the future for this.

 

I picked 1 up, I figure if it is similar to beers like Southern Tier Creme Brule and other beers in the BlackWater series (Sweet Heavy Stouts) it is worth a try

 

they had 5 or 6 bottles on the shelf when i was there. i asked for a price and they said it just came in. was $18.99.
