Hi gang, I'm going to be just north of Fort Worth (staying by the alliance airport) for the entire first week of January. I will be mobile and was hoping to get tips to must visit shops, restaurants and tap rooms. Cheers and happy holidays!
Try out flying saucer in down town Fort Worth great food lots great beers, world of beer in Arlington, lone star taps and caps will be close to you in alliance. Cheers
I am in North Fort Worth, close to Alliance. Not a ton of "close" places, but many in easy driving distance. Rabbit Hole Brewing, Shannon Brewing and Grapevine Brewing are the closest to Alliance.
Collective Brewing just south of downtown for sours, wilds and other good stuff. Fun place. Then go a little further south and west to Magnolia St for Bearded Lady Pub, Chimara Brew Pub and a couple other places for good food and decent beer. Trinity River Tap House on West 7th. From there you can walk back into W7th area. There are a few places with decent tap lists. Magnolia Motor Lounge. Social House and others. Go to Rodeo Goat (part of Flying Saucer org.) for a great burger and good beer selection. Now the bad news. I-35 between Alliance and downtown is fugged. The part south of I-820 to DT is one of the oldest stretches of original interstate highway and it's about halfway to completion. If somebody farts it causes backups all the way to Alliance. You can always go north to Denton. There's a bunch of stuff up there now and no traffic.
Martin House is always fun. Closest to Alliance would be Shannon Brewing in Keller, Rabbit Hole in Justin and Bearded Eel in Haslet...all are defititely worthwhile. I'm usually in the tap room and would be happy to pour you a pint...the Irish Red is great.
I'll be in town this week as well from Raleigh. I'll be in the Roanoke/Southlake area. I've always had a good experience at the Mellow Mushroom in Southlake. Their tap list has been good everytime I've been there, but I'm always looking for other recommendations.
Roanoke/Southlake are both nice areas, I am in Keller, the suburb between Roanoke and Southlake. In closest proximity, check out Central Market in Southlake for bottles, look for Matt or Jeff in the beer area and they do fill growlers. Just downy he road south of southlake is Hal's Market on Glade, also a good local bottle shop.
Also, in Southlake and almost directly across the road from Mellow Mushroom, is Torchy's Tacos...a MUST have and they also had a small but local tap list. Also, in Keller on Keller Main/Hwy 377, on west side of road almost immediately south of Southlake Blvd/Hwy 1709 is the Keller Tavern. Great food, and a small but good tap list. Get the tater tots with bourbon marshmallow sauce...yummm!!
I live in the area. I'm not a huge fan of Shannon's beers and would rather spend time at Rabbit Hole. Both have spotty hours due to weird Texas taproom laws.
I have family in Southlake and we hit up Ginger Man over Thanksgiving for lunch and they had a solid draft list including Deschutes Fresh Squeezed. And I second hitting up Central Market for bottles and Torchey's for Tacos!
