I've never had a Kolsch personally but I would love to try.

Coast 32/50 Kolsch is one of my favorite beers and is thankfully available year round here in Charleston.

Also fell in love with Elm City's coffee Kolsch over the summer and into the fall!

Fortunately, Kolsch style has proven to be fairly popular. Several local breweries in my area brew a Kolsch style year round, and I can almost always find some on the shelf.

I always find it amusing how people take beers they don't like as a personal offense.

Sunner Kolsch - Gebr. Sunner GmbH & Co. is really good. Kolsch is one of my favorite styles and I think one of the most underrated styles. Others that I enjoy: Calumet Queen > Sun King Slacktivist, Alaskan summer, and they don't distribute by Dangerous Man Kolsch from Minneapolis is amazing.

I didn't realize Alaska's summer ale was a kolsch. That is an excellent beer, probably my favorite from them. I don't know how close Leinies canoe paddler is to a real kolsch, but I think that is a nice, underrated beer.

A while back i had Trillium Big Sprang, it didn't really taste true to the style, but i thought it was fantastic.

    Since the thread was resurrected-

Last weekend I had the pleasure of trying Krankshaft Kolsch thanks to @creepinjeeper , and thought it was fantastic; possibly the best interpretation I've had brewed in the States. Way to go Metropolitan!

Maine Beer Co. did a Pilot 8 on tap at brewery only. It was their version of a 'hoppy' kolsch. I liked it but since it was only on tap, I had it as a flight with others that easily overpowered it (like IPAs). To me, Kolsch and a good pilsner mark the start of summer/spring style drinking.
p.s. Smuttlabs Kung fu Hobo is a good kolsch.

That Kolsch from the Seirra Nevada summer pack was good and I'm not a fan of the style

I can drink the Hell out of some Lawn Seat Kolsch by GLBC, but it's only a late spring seasonal to my understanding.

Beau's all natural brewing company in Vankleek hill, Ontario, Canada. make a kolsh called Lug Tread Lagered Ale. They cold store it after brewing to make it fairly crisp. It's their flagship beer and absolutely fantastic. But its only sold in Ontario Quebec and Upstate new york because Beau's believes that if you can find it more than a days drive from your brewery, its to big to be craft.

Kolsch always tastes like a dusty computer store to me. Some people call it "fragrant" or "perfume"; to me, it's always smelled like dusty electronics.

It is awfully good. Glad you had the opportunity to partake. I would strongly suggest you seek out other Metropolitan beers (when/if possible) as I've really enjoyed all that I've tried from the brewery. Many of their styles are a departure from those primarily discussed here, but if I'm not mistaken, they might be right up your alley.

Thanks. I just had a couple more tonight, Flywheel and Dynamo, and really enjoyed both. They are most definitely up my alley. I'll be keeping an eye out for them from now on; they are making some great stuff!

I was introduced to Kolsch by a colleague who'd spent a lot of time in Cologne. We were in Raleigh, NC on business last year and drank a lot of White Street LKolsch. No idea if it's authentic, but a very enjoyable session beer.

Since the discussion is aigan on:
A while ago, I visited my aunt who lives near cologne, and we went to a bad chinese restaurant.....Why is this relevant? Because they had Dom Kölsch vom Faß. Not the best Kölsch around, and from Keg, no bayersicher Anstisch, but nontheless, it was good. Very, very enjoyable. My guess would be that it was just in very good condition-I mean the place was packed, and nearly everyone was drinking Kölsch. So it must have been fresh....

And I think that's why Kölsch can only really thrive in an enviroment where it is the main thing consumed, very much like a proper Helles- When it competes on a store shelve with dozens of other styles and sits around for quite a while, it becomes a shadow of its glorious self.
