I had 3 out of 3 bottles that were very sour. Couldn't drink them. Bought them all at the same time and the batch number is the same for all 3. 17/SEP/15 1440

I did contact GI and the guy took down all the information as far as bottled on info and where / when I purchased. He said that they're looking into it.

Some of the articles that talked about the purchase of 10 Barrel said that InBev was not very happy with that decision to recall Swill.

Deschutes had a voluntary recall of the Abyss back in 2009 and gave people (retail price) refunds. It worked extremely well.

They would have eventually been sued if they didn't recall as many of those bottles as possible. Some were more overcarbonated than anything I've ever seen... No doubt they ultimately would have began exploding.

    My bottle reads:
    17/Sep/15 1855

No gushing and tastes like the good ol' BCBCS we all know and love. My BCBBW tasted and smelled like soured cherries, though.

My one only bottle ever of BCBCS says 17/SEP/15 1256 ... Hopefully when I open it there will be no issues

I didn't. I first just assumed the infection was part of the brewing process. But the really random nature to batch And time kinda lead elsewhere, bottles, caps etc.

17/sep/15 2042. A bit of a tartness to it, coffee isn't super strong. But still very good. No gushing, minimal head.

Bought on Monday after black friday, went into a fridge a couple days later. got out to drink.

Opened 17/Sept/15 1554 tonight. Definitely infected. Didnt't gush like others and thought it was going to be ok based on pour but had a definite sour aftertaste with no coffee smell or flavor. Drain poured the majority, huge letdown as this is one of my favorite beers.

17/SEP/15 batch 1049 also had significant sour notes. hard to swallow (pun intended) that GI would let these bottles through and not suss out the consumer.

First, I just want to say that I'm not angry with GI for this bad beer experience. I don't think that any of this was intentional. It just sucks that it happened to such a delicious beer. With that said, they may have to update their sanitary processes, or at least adjust them to the new way they produce BCBS overall. I didn't know about this infection issue until recently, so I'm late to the post. Once I read about it I was somewhat upset, but not in a violent way. I opened one of my BCBSC from my cellar today (time stamp #1350) to see if it was infected, which I kind of assumed once I started to read all of the other posts. As I figured, the one I opened was, because it started to gush right after I opened it. It still had a slight coffee aroma to it, as well as a coffee taste, but the finish was definitely sour-ish. Also, I know that some people have been posting about the possible issue being the groves on the inside of the bottle being the culprit. Once I read that I decided to open my BCBCS and break the bottle once it was empty to verify that assumption. The inside was smooth, but there were very subtle grooves on the inside around the lettering. I'm not saying that this is what caused it, but it's a possibility. If the inside around the lettering is the issue, this may be a bigger problem across the board, but I'll wait to focus on that once we hear back from GI.

@cavedave homebrew club tasting fell through bringing something else to the meeting so drinking my bcbcs vertical at home tonight with my brother. Bottled 11/17/15 not that it matters but time stamp is 1151.

Looks like all is well for me tastes as I remembered fresh on tap. Guess I lucked out compared to some. Stored at 55°F in my cellar since purchase the day after Black Friday. This was my only bottle so I no longer have a horse in this race curious too see what happens with this and the BW though (which I still have bottles of).

    Cheers!

Tasting great. No gush when opened. Not thin, no sour cherry/infected flavor, no lactic aroma. Just coffee, fudgy goodness.

A few questions to those that may know:

    1. Were the same distilleries barrels used for this years BCBS, BCBCS and BCBBW? (I know Rare used Heaven Hills)

    2. Does GI use the same bottling plant across all BC varieties? If so, I suspect the line gets sanitized between different beers correct?

    3. Before the beer is bottled, I suspect it goes into some sort of blending tanks after it leaves the barrels right?

I'm not trying to go all Columbo, but with all the talk of how barrels could be the cause, I would think this is unlikely due to the fact that much more standard was produced, without any issues up to this point...and assuming they used the same lot (brand, vintage) of barrels purchased from distillery X, I would think the issue would be spread across all BC varieties, excluding Rare, if it was a barrel related issue.

I would use the same logic to eliminate the bottles and caps themselves as the issue, since all varieties use the same ones, including Rare.

This would leave me with the deductive conclusion, that in all likelihood, the issue was somewhere along the bottling line itself (maybe certain contaminated filling nozzles? blending tanks?).

If they release infected products, maybe they should. It'd be better than looking like fools.
