You're thinking of the Chronology series, which is a scotch ale this year. The Anniversary beer is still the solera method old ale.

Yeah I took it as Chrono:6 (and future Chronos this year) will be a Wee Heavy/Scotch Ale aged in bourbon barrels, while Poterie is the regular solera brewed anniversary strong ale aged in scotch whiskey barrels.

Info on Colonel Kernel is out - a bourbon barrel-aged barleywine brewed with beaucoup de corn.

They say it's for their biggest supporters so money is one thing. I had zero tasting room visits but I'm also out of state and bought a crap load of beer. I think it may be harder as an in state person to stand out.

I don't know about that, I spent FAR less than others and still got invited. Without opening up a crapton of discussion that will span about 12 pages, I think some of it is completely random.

The tasting room list already has the Scotch BA Poterie on it. I guess that means it's available today.

Is this a 2015 beer? Maybe that means I'll never get a crack at it, but if I do I hope it's actual corn and not corn syrup, which is basically just sugar, right?

Found it listed as an American Barleywine. Damn. I would love for that style to die or just be called what they really are, a barley heavy Imperial IPA.

Colonel Kernel is a 2015 carry over beer.

Is corn syrup sugar? I think the corn producers and FDA are still arguing about that. It could be decided, I don't follow it too closely.

@AndyBrewsBeer, are you sure it's an American Barleywine? I've seen nothing about it besides it saying it's a Barleywine. When The Bruery releases hoppy beers they always put "hoppy" before the style.

"Sugar" is such a general term that, yes, corn syrup contains sugars. Diving deeper than most people care, corn syrup is mostly glucose and maltose. High fructose corn syrup is a completely different beast, but I doubt brewers would use HFCS since it's used as a sweetener more than a brewing sugar (but you can use it in brewing).

I would think that The Bruery would just use straight up corn if it was going to go for a corn based beer.

Not sure. You can't get much more American than corn though...

If it turns out to be closer to an English Barleywine then I will request to have the style changed.
