And I'll be waiting for a Founders, Bell's or Surly to tackle that project and bring NE to my town.

In general id say no its 90% of beer at the store i go to.

For myself its my favorite style but nowadays id prefer a hoppy pilsner just for the higher carbonation and lighter body. Session ipas are my favorite flr the thinner body regardless of the mostly dislike of it.

If I want to throw a few back, and am not in a sipping mood....Nooner/All Day...repeat until I'm all done.

As a west coaster I agree 100%, we need to re-tweek the IPA styles out here.

    Cheers…….

Hell yea. Just put away a six pack of Nooner last weekend the same day i bought it. All Day seems to get to me like a normal IPA would but i love it. I do get in sipping moods sometimes but thats when I'll grab a bomber because that for me is rare. Two Roads out of CT makes a Saison thats on par with Allagash and Hoegaarden and its only 4.8% keep the low abvs coming i actuallt prefer that thinnesd to so im easily impressed haha

Yup, I guess some beers just want to be chugged and some need to be savored. I agree, even with like the All Day, if I break it up with a pils or two, I can swig a few with out getting the hop burnout.

I think preference has been going away from the almost too sweet DIPAs (hoptimum I'm looking at you) to where Lagunitas Born Yesterday is at. That one is a Pale Ale (in theory) but has the hop aroma and taste of a IPA.

That 9%+ DIPA trend may converting more to a 6.5%. I call it the 'butter' zone. 6.5% to 8.5% abv with a nice aroma that isnt too sweet is where I believe the majority of the more popular IPA/DIPAs tend to sit now.

I have yet to find a DIPA over 9% that I really like. I much prefer 6-8. Saga at 6.2 and something like GF West Coast IPA at 8%. I find it interesting, though, how taste varies. Hoptimum to me, isn't at all sweet, it has that ammonia like astringency.

Nope. I see stouts and wild ales being traded for them.

NO, I didn't mean liking IPAs makes you a newbie. I LOVE IPAs too.
My point was that many of the new people getting into craft beer immediately want to jump into the most popular beers, many of which happen to be IPAs. They keep the hype train going.

My reply is, you're confusing the likes and wants of a VERY small percentage of BA's to the craft community as a whole.

Put it this way, for every 1 bearded dude waiting in line for the next barrel age release just to jump on BA to chat about it, there are 20 people buying a case of Fat Tire.

It's two-fold I think. 1) with the number of breweries popping up, the IPA is pretty much the flagship of most new breweries. 2) BUT, to stand out among the crowd, I've notice at least locally a handful of breweries who are opening up that are specializing in something other than IPA/hop bombs (Penrose in Chicago, for example). For 5 years, it seems every brewery had a "hop-gasm", "hop juice" etc. So the answer is kinda both: there are a ton of new IPA's out there with the growth of the number of new breweries, but on the other hand there are also a growing number of breweries branching out to produce beers other than the typical hoppy things.

~I did chuckle that when I logged in, the two threads I saw at the top right next to each other: "why are IIPA so wildly popular?" and right below it, "Are IPA's becoming less popular?". Haha.

Hipsters are now going for the farmhouse and belgium type beers because that's the cool thing to do.

Personally, I tend to drink more of the dark styles when the weather gets colder, but my lust for the hop has never abated. .
