I'll probably post again when I drink my bottle (over the weekend, maybe?), but it seemed less vanilla-forward at FoBAB than I remembered it being the other times I've had it. Hard to tell if it was my palate that night, or the beer.

I've had it several times and it just tastes like a very vanilla forward stout to me. It's very good, but I'm guessing the low bottle count is what's mostly driving the trade market.

Was just wondering either way, it has a 96 on BA but based upon the Breck comment I was trying to figure that out. I was lucky enough to have a buddy that made the release so looking forward to trying it.

It is all a matter of preference and taste I imagine. I think Last Snow from Funky Buddha tastes like watered down starbucks coffee flavoring - really didn't like that beer, but hundreds of other people disagree with me. Might be like that - a love or hate beer

Good point, everyone's tastes are different and I hope that I like this one as I am a fan of Vanilla beers.

Me too - I generally like vanilla a lot; didn't dig Vanilla Rye (too overpowering and medicinal) but loved BA Jones Dog. A bottle of Madagascar is coming to a share tomorrow, so I am really looking forward to it!

Anyone know the scoop on Schaumburg or Lake Zurich Binny's if they ever got it... I called LZ and the lady said they didn't get it, but she also sounded like she didn't fully understand what I was asking about

I do not think it tastes like Breck's Vanilla at all...

Yesterday (Wednesday) 60 guys were at Binnys on Grand for the 12 bottles they got...Plainfield Binnys got theirs today and it was gone instantly. Of course I stopped in way after they were gone and this is what the beer guys told me.
I had it at FOBAB and it was great! (but this was after 2 hours so I cannot accurately describe it)

Oh man, those are like 20 miles apart! How am I going to get my mules from one store to another in time
I am going to have to deputize one of my hobo's in the city and pay him an extra handle of vodka to run the show while I hit the burbs... These overheads are killing me :slight_frown:

Hmm. I was at Binnys on grand and by chance got the last bottle. There were not 60 people there.

I also think all of the cycle stouts and 18th street hunters are overrated and think BCBS regular was the best variant this year by far. So maybe it's just my palate or maybe I'm a little prejudiced against adjuncts.

I talked to Lakeview on Wednesday and they said they got it in that day and it went very quickly. Did someone there tell you differently?

Talked to the guy at Highland Park Binny's yesterday, and he said they got it in on Wednesday and was gone within 2 hours. They only received a case.

I think a decent amount of people prefer the standard BA stouts to the adjuncts. I'm the opposite; I will almost always prefer adjuncts, and preferred Prop and Rare (possibly Regal, but only had a small taste) to Regular this year.

No one should have to justify what they do or do not like, unless they say something that it completely out of whack with normal variances in palate (Madagascar tasted like Bud Light, for example). I get why people love Madagascar, and I also get why people don't get it (not thick like a BCBS, too much vanilla, etc.). I like my flavors over the top, whereas plenty of people like balance.

Madagascar? Yeah, I heard some smaller places got it yesterday. Same story, though, gone within an hour or two.
