Thank you, you took the words right out of my mouth. My thought upon reading the post @macewank wrote is "who cares?"

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the pretentiousness of a minority of BA's who like to dispute with others what they are or are not tasting.

    It's infected. Not debatable.

Well, some of it is infected to be fair. We have no real idea how wide spread it is. All of it could go south, or it could just be a percentage from a certain timeframe.

I think that is why it is important for people to actually call goose and tell them - help track down the details

    Bingo.

The question isn't whether or not there is an infection issue, it's how much of the beer is infected. At one point, the discussion here was focused on building anecdotal evidence to try and figure that out, but we've shifted well into "well that point you brought up is stupid and who cares"

    Whatever.

Here's relevant news: Goose Island will be making a statement on this later this afternoon. Stay tuned.

And yeah. There's a story to the username that's far less bad than you think.. It was my systems login back when I was in school. Nickname kind of stuck

Nope, I was busy finishing off a delicious bottle of 2015 BCBCS. Looks like all the fake rumors of infection me and my cabal of nefarious beer traders started has really paid off - we were able to pick up a truckload for way under market rate :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, if you dig a little deeper on FB, you can see a response to someone's comment from the official GI account that there will be an announcement "tomorrow" (comment was made 16 hours ago, so roughly 9pm EST yesterday). The comment and response are on the post about christmas tree recycling/disposal.

The deleting of tweets combined with that older information about an announcement today suggests that something has changed very recently. Like they had planned to do an announcement today, but something came up making that plan nonviable.

So is essentially BCBCS worthless now in the trading market?

Nope not really, but it doesn't trade for any premium at all. It should still go $4$ on moderately limited stuff - remember, the recipient is just getting a 'maybe' infected beer, so for example someone in Vermont might take the risk and trade you $4$ for some SoS or Heady, since they aren't out more than the dollars for something they can get more of in a few weeks.

People still looking for it are probably waiting for the announcement from Goose on what they are going to do and how big the problem is. If the worst you have to do is call in with a pic of your bottle and they will mail you a refund, then it isn't a horrible risk if you roll it into a bigger trade. That said, if Goose confirms it is a 75% chance you get a dud bottle the trade value will be zero...

From the Goose Island Blog :

    http://www.gooseisland.com/blog.html?id=post_11

    To our loyal fans,

Each year you stand in long lines in the cold to get your hands on Bourbon County Stout and the special variants. This is beer that we hope is shared on special occasions, or maybe even makes the occasion special. Beer that we truly hope helps strengthen bonds and makes lasting memories.

I want you to know that the entire team at Goose Island puts our heart and soul into making Bourbon County, and we understand and appreciate your high expectations for them. It is always our intention to put forth the best beer we can craft. When we don’t meet those expectations we take it personally, and we want to make it right.

It has come to our attention that since bottling the 2015 Bourbon County Coffee and Bourbon County Barleywine, they have developed flavors that are not consistent with our expectation of how these beers should taste. That’s not to say the beer doesn’t taste good, in fact some drinkers may enjoy it very much. However, it doesn’t meet our standards for the taste profile of these beers.

All of our beer goes through a very thorough quality oversight process including sensory and microbiology programs. This by no means is a guarantee of success especially with barrel aged beers. Both of these beers have drifted out of their target character thus leading us to provide refunds for anyone who is unsatisfied with them. Anyone who would like a refund for 2015 Bourbon County Coffee or 2015 Bourbon County Barleywine, please contact us at 1-800-Goose-Me.

In spite of the risks inherent with barrel aging, our quest to grow these beers and our barrel aging program will persevere. I hope you continue to join us in this adventure.

    Very Truly,
    Jared Jankoski
