I love how close the votes are.
Honestly, they are both fantastic breweries with fantastic beer.
    They both do Belgium justice.

Gotta +1 this...two of my favorite marques, but as many here have noted, Hennepin gives Ommegang the nod.

Unibroue pretty easily. Ommegang has more variety and more unique releases, but at $12-15 per bottle and often not that great, I find myself hesitating to ever pull the trigger on them. Unibroue, on the other hand, pretty easily knocks most of what they do out of the park and is more reasonably priced. When they do come out with something new, it's usually good as well. The anniversary beers and the 17 Reserve were all great. Also one area where Unibroue succeeds that most NA and even some Belgian breweries fails: attenuation. There's little worse than an overly sweet and thick Belgian beer that should be crisp and drinkable (e.g. compare Duvel to Golden Monkey or the like).

Gonna try this tasting battle soon:

    Witte vs. Blanche De Chambly
    Hennepin vs. Don de Dieu
    Rare VOS vs. Maudite
Tripel Perfection or Gnomegang vs. La Fin du Monde
    Three Philosophers vs. La Terrible
    Abbey Ale vs. Trois Pistoles

This is like picking which of my children I love more! I love them both equally - two of my favorite go-to breweries.

    Unibroue, hands down.

The flavor profile is much closer to actual Belgian counterparts, albeit with the unique flavor of Unibroue yeast which seems to exist to some extent in each beer they make.

La Terrible, crushes, and I mean absolutely crushes, Three Philosophers (I've had Three Philosophers twice, and have postponed writing the negative review hoping maybe the next bottle will be better:astonished:)

Trois Pistoles is also far superior to Three Philosophers.

From the Wit (Blanche de Chambly) to the Quad (La Terrible) and every style in between, Unibroue is solid.

I do like Ommegang's Abbey Ale, but beyond that nothing really hits the mark as well as our Japanese owned Canadian friends manage to do! :grinning:

And this post isn't opinionated at all!

Russian River and Allagash are both better than either of them.

That said, they're both still excellent. Received a unibroue gift-pack a while back and loved everything in it.

Ommegang's Three Philosophers is awesome and I've had some good specialties from them, but Uni gets my vote purely based on my love for Trois Pistoles and Le Fin du Monde.

I love both breweries, but Hennepin is the tie-breaker for me. I prefer it over even most Belgian saisons. I think this should have been a three-way question, though, because Allagash should have been included.

Really tough choice here. Had to go with Ommegang - maybe just because I've been drinking it more lately? As most have said, Three Philosophers is just fantastic.

Terrible is such an underrated beer. For the price, it simply cannot be beat.

can I vote for both? I'll admit I've been going with Ommegang more so lately, but had a bottle of Fin Du Monde the other night and I forgot how good it is.
I don;t think I've ever had a total dud from either one. They do brew differently, but that;s not necessarily a bad thing.

It's all over my town here in Kentucky. My neighborhood Mellow Mushroom always has one or two Unibroue on tap am a couple more in the bottle. Wino's Depot taproom had a Unibroue event recently, had a brewery rep visit. (That happened to fall on my wedding anniversary so I missed it.)

Since I placed my vote, (Uni) I had a chance to try a bottle of Uni Don De Dieu. I'd really like to have that one on draft. Nothing Ommegang even comes close.
