I could see the bottle "value" being higher than $200 as there are 10 beers, and they probably would be more like $30.

With that said I agree with your earlier comment. The site seems cheap, especially the logo, doesn't have the same feel of their other stuff.

If it is real, I do not understand why people would be upset with this. Obviously this is offered to members who spend a lot. If you think you spend a lot and are not invited, obviously you don't spend as much as others. They have to make the cut somewhere. If you think it is is too pricey then don't participate.

This really sets off my "joke/troll/scam" sense, but other than calling it "Hoarder Society" there's nothing unreasonable there...

Me to, except there isn't a hint of a joke in any of the details from what I can see? You'd think they'd drop in something to make it more obviously a joke.

I also posted this because it has other interesting tidbits, like opening up shipping within Cali next year, plus of course the list of upcoming beers...

Along with the Rare Barrel, they are cornering the market on douchey names with a negative connotation.

Not a chance i would pay for this, but surely they will have many eager peeps buying their wares.

How'd you find out about it? i.e. who actually received this email/invitation?

That certainly does lend itself to being real (unless somebody hacked both their database and DNS, which is more unlikely), but I'm curious if this maybe just leaked before it was supposed to? The site looks terrible - very unpolished.

I hear there is also going to be a Jump the Shark Society soon as well. For a cool $1000 you get all the benefits of the Hoarders Society plus once a year you get to take a soak in a barrel of Black Tuesday with a crazy straw. :grinning:

There is a thread on ratebeer about it, I put all the info together (tried logging in with my RS info, got the details about the membership above, etc) and just posted it here.

Well, not easily, but the domain is registered with GoDaddy, using GoDaddy DNS, Patrick's email is very public, and there are plenty of godaddy account phishers out there. So that part wouldn't surprise me terribly, particularly if somebody were to go through all this effort.

That said, if they really have the database of user info, it's unlikely they were able to grab that plus takeover DNS...

    $700 for 22 beers... $32 a beer? Sounds... good...

Don't know who he is, but Luckyhank posted this on ratebeer.com in a response to a question of the validity of this new society:

I got one yesterday. If money were no object, sure I would go for it. But $695 is a lot to throw down. Don’t think I can talk my wife into that one.

Also, I’ve been a Reserve Society member for two years and kind of getting over it. The special growler fills are scant, and usually only for unpopular special release beers. For every fantastic release (Motherfunker, Tart of Darkness) there are about four or five clunkers, some of which are pretty expensive.

This is what I was thinking too. Doesn't look like the typical Bruery stuff that is put together.

But I'm liking the list of beers for next year as a RS member!

    Okay guys...

Just got off the phone with Jonas at the Bruery and he informed, "yes this is a real thing" No scam or joke. Invite only and all the details the OP listed are part of it.

    Cheers!

Interesting. So I guess that officially leaks the 2013 RS beer list then too...

May I be the first to predict a "Bad Hoarder's Society Trustee Alert" thread by mid-January 2013?

Pretty brilliant. They've pretty much guaranteed their high-end sales before any of them are released. You guys are buying beer futures.

This is raising my B.S. detector quite a bit. The Bruery's main website is pretty slick and professional, the page linked in the first post on this thread is anything but. I'd be very, very damn cautious about putting Credit Card info into that site...

Kind of disappointed after spending thousands of dollars at the Bruery, ordering max allocations 90% of the time, I didn't get an invite. Which, may be presumptuous of me, but if the shitton of $$ I spend there doesn't get an invite, I wonder what does, thus making me think further that this might be fake.

Cascade should do something like this for real though. Sucks not getting Strawberry or Figaro online.

If anybody takes on trustee duties for a Hoarder Society member, they deserve a medal.
