Cool to look at but nitro beers feel flat.

Isn't this entire thread about opinions regarding nitro? I must have misread the OP.

I love milk stouts/oatmeal stouts on Nitro. I feel most RIS also taste good with nitrogen as long as the flavors are not too overwhelming and its not BA or spiked with crazy spices.
Maine Beer Company has had a Pilot 9 (RIS) on tap with nitro and its totally awesome! They have also been kegging Mean old Tom on nitro and the mouth feel is awesome. Love it!

Cheap substitute for cask ale. Cask or keg is fine with me depending on the beer, but nitro is definitely a distant third.

I think it really depends on the beer. Had an amazing R.I.S. on nitro and it was delicious. Tried an IPA one taphouse had on nitro and all I could think was, "Why?" Why would you do this to what was probably a pretty decent beer before you effed it up??

No nitro, makes everything taste the same.

I prefer CO2 but I enjoy a nitro every now and then just to mix things up. Nitro Peche Mortel was one of the best beers I have ever had.

I'm not a huge fan of nitro beers. It's cool to me until I take like my 5th sip, then the novelty kind of wears off.

I've had Guinness, Left Hand, Old Raspy, Founders Oatmeal on nitro and they're ok, but nothing memorable. Maybe I haven't hand anything too exotic on nitro to see how the flavors come through. If I see Peche Mortel on nitro I may very well pull the trigger and see if the coffee addition makes that big of a difference on nitro.

I prefer CO2 as well. Nitro is a nice change of pace for stouts and porters, however.

There's a little Irish pub near me with great food and I think I could drink one million Guinnesses (guinni?) there. I love nitro beers.

Personally, I had the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter on nitro the first time I ever had it. I loved the velvety mouth feel and felt the flavors were heavily pronounced. Later I had the same in a bottle and felt it was a completely different beer.

I can't think of a single beer I've ever liked better on Nitro. Some have been good, but no better than non-nitro versions.
Yes, that initial mouthfeel is nice. However it goes flat quickly and even strong flavors are muted. To each their own, but usually when I see that a beer is on nitro I'll avoid it.

Well, of course it is. That was my point! :astonished:
A lot of people don't like them, but a lot do.
    It's all good.

Only beer I've ever been amazed by on nitro was Boulder Shake because it really did taste like a chocolate shake. This was years before I fully immersed myself into craft beer so I wonder if/how my opinion would differ now.

Agree with this. One example is my favorite pumpkin beer ever, Selin's Grove Pumpkin Ale. Only available on nitro at the brewpub and it's fantastic. So rich and creamy, like pumpkin pie in a glass.

That was the original intention. It was one of the all time classic fails.Cask allows the beer to develop, to increase its flavour profile and complexity. Nitro dumbs beer down with a vengeance and yields a wierd mouthfeel while doing so.And people say they drink craft beer for the flavour.............

Yeah, depends on the beer; there's definitely a tradeoff between mouthfeel and flavor. I particularly like Milk Stout Nitro; Boddingtons on nitro is a worthwhile tradeoff as well.
