Stopped by Aeronaut Brewing today for the first time in awhile. They now offer fresh-filled 32oz crowlers. First crowlers I've seen in E Mass.

Prices between $10 and $15 with no deposit. I believe they are still filling their glass growlers at the same price.

Tried a few beers while I was there. Didn't like the black IPA, Lydia's Black Heart, enough to buy a six pack (love the package design though). Got crowlers of Eye of Sauvin (always a favorite) and Cocoa Sutra (milk stout w/ cacao nibs from Somerville Chocolate).

Crowlers are fantastic. Weren't they selling 4 packs of the anniversary IPA for like 13 bucks though?

Especially when Trillium is charging $8-12 for 32 oz. growler fills of far superior beers. I've enjoyed some of the Aeronaut stuff, I just don't understand what they're trying to accomplish over there with that space. If they focused on beer and distribution, they could do quite well I think. But the "concept" of their space seems to take priority.

Take-away beer is definitely not their main focus. There were probably 75 people there on a Sunday at 3pm hanging out, drinking draft beer, playing Super Mario Bros and listening to live music. I'm pretty sure I was the only one in the crowd buying beer to-go.

I took a closer look at the beer list. Aeronaut offers a 33% discount if you buy a "3 pack" of crowlers. That seems like a more reasonable deal.

I do appreciate not having to store all of the glass in my cabinet!

Never had anything above average from them. Certainly wont be taking home beer at those prices.

Tried to go back to Aeronaut with friends Saturday night. They seem to be doing just fine. The place was at capacity at 8pm with 30 people waiting outside for people inside to exit so they could enter. It looked more like a night club than a brewery! Needless to say, we went elsewhere. Had a great time with some very good beers at Somerville Brewing just down the street.

Aeronaut has always stressed the space/events over the beer IMO. Though I do get their newsletter each week and occasionally something sounds good (on paper). Then I check untappd and it's lots of 3.5s or worse. I still haven't been there in many months despite being a short bus ride away. The anniversary IPA was solid, not amazing. Great space, wish it was Trillium or Night Shift in it though.

I do like the idea of the brewery as a social/cultural/arts/etc center, which is happening more and more and seems to be the emphasis at Aeronaut. Obviously better beer would be... well, better, but if the beer is merely decent and the real draw is that it's a gathering spot for the local community, that's great too.

Probably not racing out to get any crowlers, though.

Haven't tried the beer, but wanted to chime in on crowlers generally. Harpoon posted that they now have them as well. In my opinion, these things are the solution to the branded growler refill law in MA. Everybody in MA should move to crowlers and dump growlers.

They are currently only available at the Vermont brewery.

Naturally. Why do anything that makes sense.

Crowlers are boss, wish more places had them.
