How are people sure this isn't a method to steal membership passwords?

someone at the bruery confirmed it's real.

on a related note, the butthurt in this thread reminds me of this generation's strong belief that everyone is special and deserves a medal. i didn't expect that to happen in beer, but i'm not really surprised, either.

Why on Earth wouldn't you expect it show up in beer? If anything, it's more prevalent here.

Does the PT in Barnum stand for Patrick? What a bunch of nonsense. Call a spade a spade and simply say that this brewery is based solely on the speculative nature that has become craft beer. There is NO CRAFT involved in this, purely a money grab and an attempt to create exclusivity. I hope that this backfires in epic proportions.

entitlement is prevalent here, but in the past i've seen numerous people admit that better customers deserve priority access to limited releases at stores. this is much the same thing.

but these guys, when realizing they are outspent, are taking their ball and going home - never mind that they joined the society and were happily enjoying its beers prior to being told about hoarders. it's unbelievably childish.

I really don't get it. "Other people have something I don't! Whine whine whine, cry cry cry." Look at what the regular RS gets next year and tell me that it isn't fucking awesome, at least if you liked this year's RS. Next year will be way better! Where's the downside? Who cares that other people got a little bit more?

Hoping to get in as a regular RS, so I am all for the people abandoning ship. More open spots equal a better chance at getting in. I know that this will sell out in seconds just like everything this year. DLD, GABF...

There's no way I would pay $700 for a RS membership, even if it's more special, but I'd definitely pay 1/3 the price and split it with people.

    Anybody who has access interested?

I split it with someone and don't know if we did or did not. Frankly, I really don't care if we did or did not. This is ridiculous. I thought naming a beer ISO:FT was in poor taste and the name "Hoarders Society" at least is so transparent that he actually must be laughing at the notion of the lemmings lining up and going for this. I doubt I continue with the regular Reserve Society to be honest. The whole thing smells of exploitation and catering to the feeding frenzy that is now known as beer. Go ahead and rip me all you want, this is nonsense. I will gleefully support the blue collar craftsmen who produce good beer rather than an elitist organization.

That's my main takeaway. I've been in the RS since day 1, and next year's lineup is probably as exciting as I've seen. The Hoarders beers sound interesting, but I'm more excited about Cherry Oude Tart, multiple barrel variations for Bois, and potentially the Blueberry Sour (hard to get TOO pumped about a beer no one has had, but could be awesome). As I said earlier, I'd like to compare HS to RS side by side before deciding, but the RS lineup looks killer.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me as well, but in my case it was spending nearly $4000 over 18 months and not being considered a "prized customer". I'd hope to be entitled to be considered a "prized customer" at least given the very definition of the word customer.

*Me sounding pissy is another matter entirely though. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Edit: I'm sure some other people who hadn't gotten their letters must have been feeling the same way?)

Why is anyone offended by this?

It's only "exclusive" inasmuch as they are limiting memberships as the quantity of special beers will be smaller. I'm sure if enough people don't signup from the initial batch of invites (realistic given the quantity/costs), they'll just invite more.

And for the general public - we all know deep down that "rare beer" is going to turn into the wine industry, no matter what we wish for. Futures are a huge part of the wine industry, and they're going to be a huge part of the beer industry. Nothing we can do to stop that, except not buy.

At the end of the day this is an awful lot of money to throw at one brewery, and I think the people that take them up on it have to be really into The Bruery, at a level way beyond the RS members. If they like The Bruery that much, then I don't see the problem.

It's not that you aren't a prized customer, just others spend more.

You see, that really wasn't possible, as I pretty much almost completely max. out all my allocations. I thought there was other favoritism possibly going on here (ie- "who you know" type thing).

Well, to be honest, I pass along a good # of those beers to other Canadians, so you can think of it more like a 10-way split by various people across Canada. I jokingly call myself the Bruery's northern marketing rep...:sunglasses:

Got a letter....I'm joining. The craft beer community needs to lighten the fuck up. I wouldnt care of the named it the Beer Snob Society. Who gives a shit. Everyone whines. People keep complaining about the RS Society not being exclusive enough....now this is too exclusive and ridiculous? Grow up and quit complaining. If I didn't get a invite, I'd be bummed but not livid like everyone else

I just realized, the arguements over the $-value of Bruery beers are now going to be even more hilarous. Black Tuesday? $30! No, $25.50! No,No! - $24!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, but how much do you spend at the Provisions store? How much do you buy on draft? Do you attend their ticketed events, buy their merchandise, etc, etc?

Basically what I'm getting at, is the RS purchases is quite possibly only one of many factors. There is a very real possibility that they leaned towards more local customers for the first wave of invites.
