Yup, I prefer to not purchase a second sachet. As you say: "different strokes".
That could well be. I have been brewing lagers using liquid yeast since the 90's with good luck so basically I have not been motivated to switch to dry yeast for that reason as well.

Perhaps it is time for my old 'mantra': Homebrew the beers you like and brew them the way you like.

    Cheers!

FWIW: started putting a recipe together with S-189...and there it was in Beersmith all along.

Me too. It's in my shopping cart. I'm just thinking about some other things I may need for my kegging set up before I pull the trigger. Got to save on shipping when you can.

Other than the gallon batch of mead using a dry wine yeast, I've been using liquid yeasts since 1997. I generally brew lagers for the clean taste aspects and wasn't happy with the results from dry yeasts back then. Maybe they're better now but I'm happy with what I use. Spread over three or four batches the cost of a vial of yeast doesn't hurt so much.

There is a dry Kolsch yeast you can get from Germany called Colonia F, supposed to be good. I've not tried it though
