Depends on the beer for me. This one is a booze bomb that's really hot for me.

Cafe Royale, BA Narwhal and Double Barrel Jesus were lovely with a year on them. :*

I'm not saying it would be bad with a year on it, I'm just saying I don't think they often improve. Typically, aging a BA beer will mellow some of the heat, but you often lose a lot of the flavors that the barrel imparts as well. I've had many a year+ old BA stout or barleywine that barely tastes like it was ever put into a barrel at all, instead just tasting like an older non-BA beer. Double Barrel Jesus, btw, is one of my favorite beers fresh because of the way the barrel flavors integrate with the base beer. Aging it seems like a crime because it's sure to lose some of those flavors!

In an ideal world, I like to buy 2+ bottles of a BA beer and drink one now and then drink one the next year when the following years version comes out so I can compare the two years.

I have alot of BCBS' lying around. Think 6 months is when they'd start falling off?

I recently had a 2013 bottle and it was delicious. I think the barrel flavors retained really well.

Anyone get the Gulden Draak barrel-aged? I'm very tempted to pop mine open.

I had it on tap about a month ago and liked it. Solid beer, not exceptional. Barrel was not over powering though if that is what you are asking.

If you're still looking, I saw some in the cooler at Lost Dog South Arlington a few days ago.

Any other sightings of OTWOA cans aside from p St whole foods? I'm assuming this means the distributor got some, or does DC brau self distribute?

You can get it right at the brewery during growler hours.

I think the hope is that OTWOA will now see distribution so that people don't have to trek to the brewery for it anymore.

I think it should be, but if not there, it's not hard to find in stores.

OTWOA seems to sit at the brewery for weeks at a time these days instead of sell out instantly like it used to. I'm hopeful this causes them to put more of it into distro, as it's a giant pain in the ass to get to the brewery from just about any part of the city. I'd vastly prefer the 5 minute walk from my office to Schneider's on my lunch break!
