I finally had one on New Years Day. Some people say that it tastes like an IPA and some say it tastes more like a porter. I think it tastes more like a very slightly bitter porter (in the first few sips), but I think both are right in a sense. The first taste is hoppy/bitter for sure. After the first 2-3 sips, I get no hops whatsoever. At least for my palate, once it was saturated with the first few sips of hop taste, I could not taste the hops any more (or at least it was faint enough to be negligible). All I tasted was maple creamy goodness after the first few sips. Never experienced a taste like that where the hops go away after a few sips.

And when I ate something, it reset my palate again for a few waves of hops. But after saturation, I didnt taste any hops again.

So for those who want to really know if its hoppy or not, I don't think the answer is "No". I think the answer is "only for a minute". But that is just based on my palate.

I like the maple. Not sure how anyone can say there is no maple.

But I did not get much barrel.

Easily one of the best beers I had in 2015. Incredibly well balanced - the hops were more in the nose than the taste, and simply complemented the beer instead of overwhelming it. I've got to say too - black IPA's are pretty low on the rung of favorites for me, but I ended up buying - over the period of a month at several different stores - five bottles. I'm holding the last two and aging them. I want to see what happens when the hops die off & it starts drinking like a barleywine.

I know it's not part of their Backstage Series - but it's better than any of the recent releases from that series.

I am so glad I got this! Last bottle on the shelf at my local Kappy's. I thought it was long gone. Surprised to even see it today honestly. $16 plus change, but for it's rarity I don't mind. Not many accessible maple aged dark beers around. Going to try this soon.

After having it from a bomber and on tap I will say that the bombers have more flavor than on tap. Maple and barrel notes are a little more hidden on tap.

Just had this over the weekend. Incredible! Great notes of bourbon up front washed down by some sweet maple flavors on the back end. Wish I had another bottle.

Maybe they'll bring it back due to popular demand like they did with Born Yesterday, which was also amazing!

I still see bottles of this around NYC so you can probably track them down if you live in the city.

Certainly one of the most interesting beers I think I've ever had... I had a really hard time nailing down what I was tasting!

Sure, it was hoppy at first, but I got a fair amount of roasty action complimented by a touch of maple and bourbon/wood. I also noticed a bit of an earthy mint element as well (my brother didn't though- anyone else???).

There's so much going on with this beer and loved all of it!

People are not going crazy for this in my part of Michigan. Cases still sitting on the floor.

Never saw this in SE VA, kind of disappointed as we usually get all the backstage beers. In fact my local total wine still has two cases of ridanculous sitting on the floor. Ugh.

Sitting on the shelves here. I'm drinking one now. It is both very sweet and bitter, but not in a cohesive way. Thought about picking up another to age a year, but think I'm just gonna let it be.

For those who get bitter, do they get as much bitterness on every sip? I didn't get any bitterness after the first few sips. It was as if my palate was oversaturated with hops and wasn't tasting anymore after that.

May pick some up today if its still sitting. Is thete really no maple to be found? That's the reason alone why id pick it up.
