Fully agree. I enjoy OTWOA, but don't enjoy driving to DC Brau.

They service their draft accounts pretty well, so their special releases can usually be found at bars with ease. If they start distributing OTWOA, I can't see a reason why I would go back to the brewery.

Not going to the brewery is fine with me. It's so small they can't accommodate many people anyway. Seems like they would make more money sending the cans out to their accounts where it would probably sell quicker than at the brewery.

Perhaps, but wouldn't they lose margins this way? It seems to be selling for the same price elsewhere as it does at the brewery, which means they must be selling it to the distributors/stores at a lower price.

To close the loop on this, a coworker opened 28OCT15 1617, and it was infected. Good chance 1619 is bad too. You might just want to go ahead and call Goose Island.

Thanks I think I will. Luckily, in retrospect, I only have one bottle of the BW. Kind of glad I did not search for variants this year

This. My understanding is that DC Brau (like all breweries) has a much better margin when product walks out the door in the consumer's hands, rather than hops on a truck to a warehouse, then a truck to the point of sale then the point of sale to the consumer's hands.

Maybe if they had some rotating one offs on draft I might snag an extra Wings sixer while I was there trying the new stuff...

I suppose that's not surprising. I was thinking they could move product out the door immediately (although at a lower profit margin) but then have room for more product at the brewery which would allow them to increase volume and compensate for the lost profit (and hopefully allow the brewery to grow over the long term). Just glad OTWOA will be more available.

While this maybe true, the pros must out way the cons for them. They have been continuously expanding their distribution and may think they'll make a larger profit by selling more OTWOA via distribution. Not sure about the other stores but P. Street WF had a ton of the stuff. DC Brau is probably making a nice profit selling multiple cases to stores.

Oh for sure, this is true if they are actually increasing production of OTWOA. If they're producing the same batch size though and having to distro some, they are almost definitely making less money than if they just sell out at the brewery. After all, the fact that they have had quality control issues could have impacted sales and required them to distro.

True, I'm assuming they are either producing more or not selling out at the brewery, both seem possible to me. That said, we're just kicking the can around why they started distributing OTWOA, and, no matter the reason, it's a welcome addition to store shelfs.

Anyone have any additional info? My first thought was a taproom for DC Brau or 3 Stars, but it seems to imply a single, well-known brewer. Is Megan Parisi still around?
