Stout BIF Round 5

Regretfully I am going to back out on this one. With my first child due March 11th I don't want to get committed to anything outside of getting through this with 10 healthy fingers and 10 healthy toes. I will be watching and probably regretting my decision!

I am in the process of stockpiling assets.. Will be in if there is a round 6!

 

So according to earlier posts, @bbpro47 was looking to finalize the list sometime in January, so we could start stalking our target, and then shipping in March. For me, I wouldn't mind having at least 6 weeks between these dates so I can trade for a few things to make my target's dreams come true, or at least attempt that. And I think you wanted the newbies to ship 1-2 weeks early as well? Would love to see some more action in this thread as it starts winding up in the next couple weeks.

 

right. what he said. ..and as a newbie, i'd like to make sure - first off, if i'm confirmed as 'in' - that i compile and ship nice and early. ..and could there be a recap of the rules, ie - 250oz min? any breweriana or brewery release required? is there a rating/score/'value' minimum like what LeHighAce06 said above? ....lookin forward to this. cheers.

 

Here are the details copied from the first post.

• 250 oz minimum
  
• Beers must be listed on Beer Advocate as a Stout, American Stout, Russian Imperial Stout, etc..
  
• Beers must have a minimum rating on Beer Advocate of 90 or higher.
  
• Must Include at least 1 Brewery Exclusive Beer
  
• Try to hit wants if possible, or beers that otherwise may not be available to your target(seekabrew.com)
  
• Noobs are welcomed but will be required to ship out one week earlier than everyone else & may require a sponsor

I didn't see any requirement for Breweriana but there is a requirement for a brewery release. I already have ~6 beers purchased for this because getting the good stuff takes some time. 250+ ounces will probably end up being 8-10 bombers and 6-10 singles; it'll end up being more than 250 ounces with the idea that if one or two of the beers don't technically satisfy all requirements, I still meet the minimums and can include good/fun/limited beers that dont' have many ratings.

The most important thing is sending great beer that people want to drink, and can't easily find in their area. Send stuff you would be excited to receive and to drink.

From reading past stout BIFs, it looks like most participants sent out a second (smaller) box of other beers, to include IPAs, sours, local stuff, whatever. You would have some additional time to put this together.

So now clear of the holidays and 12days, starting to collect some Westcoast stouts. Who ever i get better prep their livers and porch.

I have 140 ounces so far and it's 100% barrel aged or oak aged.
Yes, I am bumping this thread hoping @bbpro47 gets things moving.
For me, the missing puzzle piece is figuring out who my target is so I can trade for some of their wants, and make sure the beers I have aren't easily found in their area.

 

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to pull out at this point just to much other stuff going on right now.

 

So the reason I'm bumping this is we are approaching the unofficial deadline for this BIF to get locked up, there is a bit of work to be done. The BIF master hasn't posted in this thread in 33 days, but I really would like to get the list finalized and targets given out before the end of the month. I am fairly certain that I am not the only one who feels this way. That would give the newbies such as myself a minimum of 4 weeks preparation before they are required to ship.

 

Unfortunately I'm gonna have to back out of this BIF for the next round. Maybe next time!

 

Just picked another sweet Barrel-aged bomber for my soon-to-be distributed BIF target. I'll feel a little sad sending this beauty away but I'll just take solace in knowing the joy it'll bring 'em.

Any updates on targets, etc? Heading out of town and always like to shop when I do!
