Guinness piss off CAMRA nerds? You've got that all wrong. Early CAMRA loved Guinness because they supplied real ale to every single pub in the UK.

I like most of them. Old Chub Nitro is one of my favorites. I actually like the Guinness Nitro IPA.

It was a good source of yeast for homebrewing, just save the sediment from a couple of bottles.

It was the yeast me and my brother used most. Cultured up a treat from just a few dregs.

Hi all, I really feel like I am in the minority here but the whole nitro tap/can thing just isnt for me. Ive tried to enjoy them but never like the feel. I still prefer the feel of CO2 carbonation. Nitro always seems to feel and taste "flat" to me. The soft carbonation and large head are just not things I enjoy, I like a head that quickly disperses for most beers. I dont know why I hate the "flat" feel of nitro, as most BA stouts have little carbonation left but nitro is just different.

I was at Vault Brewing in PA last night and got their breakfast stout on nitro. It has awesome aroma but the nitro "flatness" killed it for me. Still a good beer just not on nitro. They had cans from the weekend release of it, so I still got a 4-pack. Two for a buddy and two for me (that I dont really want haha).

Anyway, am I alone in this or does anyone else hate the whole nitro craze? (Please let it die out!!)

    Tom

Other than for Guinness, I'm not a fan.

There is a right and wrong way to use nitro IMO. Stouts, porters, brown ales and other styles with some body: go for it and see what happens. Anything lighter in body it just seems to flatten out the mouthfeel and doesn't deliver that crisp/freshness I'm looking for in, say an American IPA.

I think I've only ever had two beers I've liked on nitro. It's mostly a garbage way to dispense beer

Nitro pale ales should be banished from all tap lines.

I think Left Hand's Nitro Milk Stout, RIS (Wake Up Dead), and Coffee Porter (Hard wired) are all good on Nitro. But the ESB doesn't do it for most people. Hard wired has a really strong coffee taste and probably wouldn't be as good on CO2.

if the beer has a pretty intense flavor normally (i.e. peche mortel) it's acceptable to put it on nitro since it will still have a good amount of flavor. beers that aren't as intense are just muted by the nitro treatment, so I tend to avoid those

I find that certain Stouts work quite well on Nitro but other than that, I can't think of another style I liked on Nitro.

IPAs on nitro taste a bit weird to me. Guinness Draught is still one of my favorites and so is Boddingtons. The newer Sam Adams nitro really nailed it on that white ale. It worked really well.

To this day I haven't met a nitro beer that I would return to. The mouthfeel just isn't that appealing. Not to say that I haven't had any that were decent, but CO2 is far superior.
