Some Mikkeller is worth the price; some isn't. They're a bit more expensive than a lot of options over here but I'd say Green Gold on tap and Brunch Weasel are more than worth the price for how good they are. I've got friends not really into craft that still mention how amazing they found Brunch Weasel. They do a lot of overly experimental shite though.

BCBS, Ballast Point and much to my disappointment Alpine 6 pack bottles around Chicagoland. There are plenty of other "rare" and single bottle stuff like BOMB.... Its all subjective though

Oh and I guess some of the "value" of Heady is its still really hard to get- even places that are supposed to have a case limit cut it to 12-16 cans Just happened to me in late Dec.

If people are complaining about Sculpin being $15 for 6 x 12 ounces, I can't wait to see the reactions when I show them the many local shops which have A LOT of run of the mill, domestically-made pale ale/IPA/stout in 22 ounce bottles selling at $6-8.

Tahoe Mountain, above all others, has some serious pricing issues
Cascade makes no sense to me
Eclipse makes no sense to me
Prairie is far too pricey, though excellent
Ale Apothecary is great, but simply ridiculous.
Mikkeller is always way too pricey for what you get
The Bruery puts out more beers than they should, far too any of them at silly prices.
Avery Barrel aged beers are ludicrously priced.
Stone overcharges their reserve series beers... just make them 750ml at least, for those prices!

^^^This. I get DFH My Antonia bombers at TW for 10. If I could get Pliny at 6-7 I'd be on it like a blind dog in a meat market.

pretty much any of these "white whale" beers around or exceeding 1000 bucks on the beer "black market". I've had a handful of said beers and while some are pretty damn tasty, no beer is worth that much money. Most people are buying these just to dick swing on social media and get as many "likes" as they can. I don't care if its the greatest liquid I've ever tasted in my life. I'd rather spend that 1000 on a trip out to Vermont or just buy a shit ton of shelf beer.

Anyone else not think it's especially constructive to talk about "overpriced"? How many of us are aware of brewery economics? Many, but not all, of the beers mentioned here require lengthy efforts which are inherently risky and expensive. That's NOT to say all of these end of working.

It's perhaps better to say that the result doesn't correlate to the price. Maybe I'm just being pedantic. Likely even. I'm just wary of the sort of accusatory tone that "overpriced" has, which kind of has the insinuation of price gouging.

    Overvalued: Anything by Toppling Goliath.
Overpriced: Ballast Point, Modern Times 22oz (love em but it's true), BCBS and variants, Prairie

I've gotten it as low as $4 and as high as $9.

I would say they're definitely overpriced, but not overvalued. Shelf beers, most of them.

You overlooked the couple of posts where I was explaining to someone else why it's overpriced. Go back and look at that exchange and you'll understand why.

3floyds beers! Don't get me wrong, they make some good beers. But then they make some awful beers all for $16-18 bomber.

another emphatic vote for pure hoppiness, unquestionably the biggest ripoff i have ever seen on the shelf in person. an IPA/DIPA simply does not cost 20-25 dollars for a 6pack, i don't care how good it is. but that's the thing, this beer isn't even good. easily the biggest head scratcher for me in terms of hype/price compared to how good the beer is. taste is subjective, and to each his own, but if you've been curious but are holding out due to the price, let this post be another in the "do not buy this beer" column.

I think this thread at least in part shows the major price discrepancies for beer that makes it across the country. Lagunitas is very rarely more than $10 for a 6-pack here, and that's counting the seasonal/limited releases that routinely clock in at 8-10% ABV while also managing to be tasty beers. The thought of it being over-priced (save the bomber of Sucks after being spoiled on 6-packs) is insane to me.

For 120 minute, I'd recommend sitting on it for a year or so because it's a very good beer after. Certainly worth the >$10 I've paid.

And I agree with this immensely. Cascade is expensive. That isn't the same as over-priced. They're also very hard to price because I don't know who else is doing that style of barrel-aged sours, that elaborately. I don't buy Cascade that often because it's expensive, but I can't remember ever having thought it wasn't worth what I've paid. But I've also never paid $35 for a bottle.

This one bottle shop was selling Avery's Uncle Jacob's Stout at $21.50....for a 12oz bottle.....CRAZY!

At roughly $16/sixer in my area for less than fresh beer (depending on which one/style) - pretty much anything from Ballast Point. (Despite them selling out.) 'Can't remember the last time I bought anything from them for this reason.
