Ballast Point while good is definitely overpriced. Mikkeller is way overpriced.

Prarie Bomb at $9.99 is worth it easily, BCBS at $8.99 to $9.99 is a steal

Any 500ml bottle that has been made of super thick, heavy glass so it appears to be bigger than it really is and then is sold for $20+.

I know I will get some flak for this, but GI Bourbon County is overrated/priced. Yeti and World Wide are pricey, but more worth the money in my opinion. On the other end, Corona.

I do not mind spending some time waiting on line, talking with some great folks. Some great beers are only available that way.

Eclipse 50/50 is the first that comes to mind. Great stuff, but also $10 more than many, many others just as good.

Where you finding Prairie bottles in PA?

Agree with Spinnerstown...they typically have a great selection but their prices are outrageous. I got a bottle of Tweak there last fall for $14, and went back a few weeks later it was now $18!

    Otter Creek/Lawsons Double Dose $20/4 pack 12oz. Excellent beer....but.

And, their almost equally good Backseat Berner is $8.99/6 pack. Go figure??

My first guess was that the "Double" part of the brand label means double the price but that math does not quite work out since the price of a bottle of Double Dose is 5 bucks while the price of a bottle of Backseat Berner is $1.50; a factor difference of 3.33. Maybe the should have labeled the beer as Triple Dose!?!

    Cheers!

P.S. Or maybe get 'fancy' and use the Belgian term: Tripel Dose!?!

I think this same way. In a straight format comparison, perception is easier to read. Where it gets sketchy for so many people is when the formats change. Far too often I see people who are okay with a $9 bomber, but freak out when the same beers are in a sixer for $18. It seems like we're not quite ready for that super high priced sixer. So in that context of comparing straight six packs, there is likely no way a $18 "special" IPA sixer can compete with the likes of regional and local micro who can price their prices as low as $7/sixer. So for that niche, Bombers do have their place. ie, consumers can't do math to realize $18 on a sixer is still a huge value.

I met a guy at the beer store who was very interested in some local IPA that he had had the night before. When he sees that its "just 4 beers" for $10. He didn't think twice about his potential purchase. He walked away. Throw in actual ounces, and ABV, and that product is cheaper than macro swill that sells for "$1.25/can". Yet he's the same person who would be okay with a $5 bomber of the same product. Too often consumers don't think twice about what they are actually buying. And it feels like breweries are pricing stuff however way they want with merely money sense involved. I can't blame them.

Wasn't Pure Hoppiness selling for $6-7/bomber before they ramped up to $19 sixers? I see plenty of people buying Enjoy by in $9 bomber format, while letting the $18 sixer sit. I just don't get it. I personally find stores that break up those sixers, and I buy each individually for about $4. So for $8, I get two more ounces than a $9 bomber.

Oskar Blues lately has been pricing their more specialty releases above $10 and up/4pack. I'm not sure if people are buying. Death of Coconut $12.. Hotbox Coffee porter, who Im not sure what the abv is, is around $14. Even with Ten Fidy at $16, I feel they could easily throw these into a bomber like other companies, price them at $10, and people wouldn't complain. A $10 bomber is roughly a $22 four pack. A $16 four pack is roughly at $7.50 bomber. When's the last time you've seen a bomber that cheap? My local breweries have set their bomber prices around $10 for more of their regular abv seasonal beers. In that context, they are ripping us off big time.

Regarding BP, they feel overpriced. They look overpriced. They are $2-4 above most other sixers. But had their GF Sculpin been only available in bomber format for $4.50. We wouldn't be complaining. A $4.50 bomber equates to a $15 six pack.

A lot of places are doing us a favor, and we still complain.. The ones that are truly doing us a favor are the $7-$10 sixers (which lucky for us is the vast majority of craft beer).

Avery has their raja double IPA out for around $13 for a 4pk of 12oz cans ($6 bomber format equivalent) around my way. That is priced quite high. They sell their Maharaja IPA for $9 on bomber format. So in that context, which way do you compare? They're doing us a favor by canning the product, but I feel it sits because people are fearful of anything in the double digits. A $9 bomber is a better deal than a $13 four pack in their eyes. The 4pack/12oz. format is a tough sell for people too. Most see it as two less than a six, so no matter what its not a good deal. But compare that 48 ounces to a 22oz. bomber, and you are still saving quite a bit.

While I seem to be ranting, Odell IPAs cans just started to show up around my way. $19 for a 12pack is absurd, when you can get bottles for $8/six pack. We're paying more for cans vs. bottles now?

TLDR; I Feel many breweries are afraid of that $16 six pack backlash, and produce in bomber format (at a much better margin for them). It's crazy to think like that but bombers sadly have their place. A much better place than $15-$19 six packs (even though the value factor is some 4x).

I think of a local IPA around my way. Retail has been $9 for a bomber from the onset. If they magically try to sell some 12 oz. four packs for say $15, do they sit? Technically anything below $19.63 is a deal. But consumers don't see it that way. They may sell more in bombers since people feel its cheaper. Am I off base with this assumption?

IMO that is the crux of the problem.
FWIW I refuse to purchase beers in the bomber format since I have the ability to do math.

    Cheers!

I've already posted re: "most bombers" hate, but Alesmith 6ers (very recently came into SE VA) are priced damned high too, Comparable to Ballast Point.
