After finishing off the rest of my 12 pack this past Sunday, I have mixed feelings on this one.

The Scotch Ale and Session Ale were stand outs, the Scotch Ale was probably my favorite.

The Boston Lager is, well, the Boston Lager. It was weird, the first one tasted a bit more caramel-malt dominant, while the second had a very pleasant balance, with the Noble hops being more prominent.

Neither Noble Pils tasted right to me, the flavors were simply too muddled. Like a weird combination of hops, with some malt poking through here and there. Not overly hoppy, just weird and muddled. Admittedly neither bottle was consumed with a fresh palate.

The first Kolsch was pleasant at first, but became less drinkable as it warmed. The second flat out didn't taste good, that trademark "Sam Adams" characteristic that I get with many of their beers stood out too much.

I still don't like Cold Snap.

It just came in at my favorite grocer; they even had a couple of case broken up in their "make your own six pack" section.(Scotch Ale was noticibly absent.) It was tough, but I passed for now. I still have some remnants of my 2nd Winter Pack and my Hopolgy Pack that need drinking. Once I " thin the herd", I'll be snagging one. Any idea what the "best before" date is?

Where are people getting the idea that this is a "Spring" variety pack? Most of the discussion here is concerning the lack of appropriateness of this timing. There's a good chance I'm missing something, but it's called the Cabin Pack (maybe as in "Cabin Fever") and the art is of a snowed-in wooden cabin covered in icicles. Doesn't invoke Spring at all.

    From the Sam Adams website:

    “Available: January - March

    Cabin Pack Variety Pack

Six styles to help celebrate the warmer weather ahead! Featuring long-time favorites Boston Lager, Cold Snap, Escape Route, and Noble Pils, and joined by the new Session Ale, as well as the return of an old favorite, Scotch Ale.”

The wording is a bit strange: “…celebrate the warmer weather ahead!”

Since Sam Adams creates a Winter Variety pack called “Winter Classics” I suppose many folks would assume that the next pack is a spring pack?

    Cheers!

The wording is strange, but if this pic is for a "Spring pack" then I wonder what's in the water cooler at BBC:

That, indeed, is a beautiful spring day..........in Moose Jaw. Thought the Escape Route was an excellent kolsch.

FWIW the graphic does not scream "spring is here" to me.

I will repeat my previous post of: "Since Sam Adams creates a Winter Variety pack called “Winter Classics” I suppose many folks would assume that the next pack is a spring pack?"

    Cheers!

I'll pick one up in March. So much other stuff to get to first. I haven't had the Scotch ale in years, and I want to try the NP.

I think the last pack was a 'Holiday Pack, despite the name (Christmas ribbon and all that), so this one is more like 'Winter- Part II'.

There is only one Beer Advocate and I don't think a website can get excited.

This is the Spring Pack because it has the spring seasonal in it (Cold Snap). They must have finally gave in to all the complainers saying "it's January and snowing!" despite the beer season changing. By having snow on the package they acknowledge it's still snowing, the name is the Cabin Pack because they know people are skiing, and then they have Cold Snap just because it is pretty popular for them and in case it warms up early.

What I am curious about though is what made them decide to make Crystal Pale Ale their other spring seasonal. It seems a bit more generic compared to their others (Porch Rocker, Pumpkin Batch, and White Christmas), but I don't mind it not being included in this pack. This pack is definitely a bit easier to drink in succession compared to the winter pack, as most of them just go down so easy. I guess that's good planning on their part though- I'll just have to buy more.

Well, this thread is only on the second page. I've seen other breweries spark much more conversation around these parts.

I'm just happy they're going to hopefully stick with the 6 type variety pack. The year's worth of the 4 types were probably not very popular in comparison. I'll be buying one this week to try them out! Scotch Ale sounds like a perfectly decent beer (you know you're not going to be blown away by most SA beers, but will probably find them drinkable).

huh, I haven't had the Scotch ale, but I do love that style of beer. The Boston Lager really sucks. It's actually amazing how much it sucks, but I haven't liked lager beers in a long time. Cold Snap is not bad to me and Kolsch beer is another one that I despise. I don't mean to demean your love of the variety pack. Not sure how anyone else feels, but I am too damned picky to like any variety pack at all. It also seems like they save the crappiest beers available for these variety packs. Seriously, ughghg.....
