Twin Cities Bottle Hunt - 2016 Edition

HyVee in Oakdale had a 2015 Utopias a few days ago.

 

It was supposed to be here last week but something happened in the distribution chain. I was told yesterday that it arrived at the distributor so you should start seeing this and their Black IPA at stores later this week.

My wife was in San Diego last week and brought home a bomber dated 1/9. She arrived home on 1/10 and it was pretty dang good when it's that fresh. I didn't taste much of a difference between this and regular Enjoy By and it wasn't very "murky" either. I'd still recommend it though. Glad it will be sixers. I think the Black IPA will be bombers only, not really my style but I'm sure I'll buy one to try anyway.

 

South Lyndale appeared to still have a couple of cases of Brett Mikkels IPA left last night when I was in. Also fresh cans of Pseudo and G-Nug from TG.

 

enjoy by black ipa and unfiltered at haskells chanhassen. also had a few bottles of dosvidanya.

 

1st grand ave liquors has abyss rye version.

 

Byerlys Golden Valley has plenty of Brett Mikkels in the cooler.

 

They also have the cognac variant. One bottle limit on each.

 

Downtown mpls lunds has both abyss rye and cognac. Limit 1 per style. Seemed to have decent amount left @ 11:20 am this morning. $24/bottle

 

Lunds St Louis Park had both Abyss Variants at 10 this morning. 24 + tax per, 1 per style.

 

They also have regular '15 Abyss on the shelves and Brett Mikkels.

 

MGM Calhoun has Abyss variants.

 

They are out of the variants, but still had plenty of the regular and Brett Mikkels.

 

Both Abyss variants at Haskells, Maple Grove. In back room, need ask an associate.

 

About 2 hours ago Haskell's In WBL had 6 bottles of the rye variant Abyss $25, a case and half of Xocoveza 6 packs $17, also some Brett Mikkels and Dino S'mores on the shelves.

 

Anyone seen any Dino smores lately?

I don't understand why stores hide bottles away from customers.

When you ask for a special release usually the employee you ask has no idea and has to ask a manager and then the manager is busy and acts like it is a big inconvenience to get a bottle from a back room for you. I'm sure the employees get sick of being asked too. Why hide the bottles? If you think it is to help beer geeks & better customers, how many customers are going to spend $25 on a bottle they have probably never heard of?

 

These limited releases sell out rather quickly, some of them being less than an hour. It may not be them trying to hide them, but rather not getting a chance to put them out or figuring why bother clearing shelf space and putting up a tag when it will be gone in short order.

 

A little bird told me rum king is coming in 4pk 12oz can for 2016..

 

I feel like an ass whenever I have to tell an employee that they actually do have something that they claim hasn't come in yet, because the guy in back put it on Twitter 2 hours earlier but couldn't walk 20 feet to tell the people on the floor that [insert beer] has come in. That's what bothers me - the lack of communication between the 3 workers in the store, not the fact that the 'special' beer is in back.
