I've never been to NEBCo, but I'm a big fan of their beer and would like to visit sometime. My question is, is there anything to do there if you're not getting a growler fill? I seem to remember seeing something on their website a year or so ago about events they had at the brewery, but I can't find any mention now.

Final Fridays...last friday of every month they have live music 6-9pm.

If your there and your not getting a growler, just introduce yourself to the fine gents. at NEBCo. and Eli the brewery dog as well and enjoy some samples.Always a good time for some beer chat at NEBCo.

Oh,and bring your walking shoes and a snack. Its one helluva long brewery tour.....

    Cheers

Should probably clarify...I believe that you get 2 or 3 tickets for the $5 admission which allows you that many pours of what they're offering (it's typically just Sea Hag and Elm City). Not sure if you're typically allowed to buy more tickets or what.

Sometimes, you'll see the Gorilla stumbling around with samples of whatever special release that they may have at the time.

Nope. However, The Winchester (bar across the street from the brewery) always has NEBCo beers on tap. As of this week, they had on Elm City, Sea Hag, Friars Quad, and Scrumtrulescent Saison.

I've never gone there at a time when they didn't have Sea Hag cans. But you can always call first.

Matt you could always spend the extra $5 and buy a case from us. I know its not as fun as going down to the brewery however you would probably save money on gas thus making the extra $5 on the case irrelevant. Just sayin. I do try to give my $ directly to them as much as possible but sometimes have to bite the bullet. Yeah I bite bullets. Cheers!

How truly awesome is the Coriolis? Worth a 2 hour drive tomorrow just to get a growler? Thoughts from those who have had it please...

Pretty truly fuckin awesome... can't say i would drive 2 hours for it, but not sure i would drive 2 hours for any beer (not counting a beercation). Also, call first to make sure that they have it. Stopped in tonight and the place was mobbed. The line was 6 deep when i left and most had 3 or 4 growlers in their hands. One keg of it kicked while i was there and it had only been on tap since yesterday at 3.

When I got there yesterday at 6 rob told me they had gone through a couple kegs already. The beer is really great def worth the 1hr drive.

reports seem good so far, both on facebook and elsewhere. my friend picked me up a growler (which i'll open tonight), and he also said it was great--wouldn't hesitate to say it wasn't for him if he didn't like it, i think.

speaking of drinking it later, i notice no one's added it to NEBCO's review page. i want to review it, but don't want to add it, primarily and ridiculously because i don't know the ABV. so, does anyone know the ABV?

do you like nelson sauvin hops? if you're not familiar with them, this beer is a great illustration of them. malt backbone isn't too sweet, which is very good; i think this hop is so earthy that it becomes sickening in sugary sweet beer (i'm looking at you, sam adam's griffin's bow). i think if you are into NS--e.g. if you like fresh anchor humming ale--this is the beer for you, because it gets more flavor out of the hop than i've experienced previously.

is it better than fuzzy baby ducks? i'm biased, because i prefer citra to NS, but more importantly i prefer crisp american IPAs to DIPAs. that said, it's really smooth for an 8.2% ABV DIPA. showcases the hops beautifully.

i vote yes, it's worth a 2 hour drive, if you call ahead and make sure they still have some and pencil in some time at prime 16 or one of the pizza places (i still haven't hit modern apizza yet myself). if they run out by the time you get there, see what places have kegs on tap; that place near the brewery (name escapes me) usually has the hot shot limited run things like galaxy and fuzzy baby ducks, right? (asking locals)

The best places to find limited NEBCO releases on tap are as follows:

The Winchester (that place across from the brewery itself)
    Delaney's
    Prime 16
    Cask Republic
    Mikro
Modern Apizza (they pretty much always have Elm City, Sea Hag, and one specialty)
    Christopher Martin's
