Going to a concert at the Bourbon Theater in February, and looking for the beer musts. Staying next to Zipline. Not too interested in bottle shops, just breweries and beer bars. Thanks!
I've partied in Lincoln once, but that was probably '07. I remember thinking downtown was fun. Couldn't tell you what bars I was in. The Midwest craft beer scene was obviously a shell of its current self in those days too.
Zip line is pretty solid... I'll also 2nd Yia Yia's. Good pizza and usually a solid beer selection with both taps and bottles. Blue bloods might also be worth a stop. Didn't like them at first but had a couple brews from them I've enjoyed lately.
reccd downtown places: the aforementioned yia yia's - right next door to the bourbon theatre, very nice beers, sometimes you can score older bottles there that are otherwise long gone off shelves as well jakes - cigar bar about a block away, good taps, great whiskey, great bartenders, my fav place in town but a warning: you can smoke inside and you will smell after you leave ploughshare - another brewery/restaurant very close by, well made but pedestrian beers, very good food, nice vibe the happy raven - relatively new, good taps with some unique offerings, a bit more low key than the other options have fun!
Thanks guys! Sounds like some solid options. Being able to smoke in the bar is actually an incentive for some in the group, so I'd imagine Jake's will happen.
First and foremost if you're going to Reel Big Fish then that's a good start to your time in Lincoln, NE. What show if not? Don't get you're hopes up for good or cheap beer at the Bourbon. I would definitely agree with those suggesting Yia Yia's and Jake's. They are so damn close! I would recommend The Happy Raven as well. A newer craft beer only bar that has 16 taps and bottles. If you use UnTapped or TapHunter you can scope these places out beforehand to see if they have something that interests you. As far as Lincoln breweries go, I wouldn't stray away from Zipline, and maybe Empyrean (Lazlo's) if you're hungry. Cheers!
wow, that seems crazy to me. What's the reasoning behind no cigarettes, but cigars is ok? Just the odor of the smoke?
Nebraska doesn't allow smoking inside of any public businesses, with the exception of "cigar bars" which have a special license that requires them to make a certain percentage of their income from cigar sales in order to maintain their status as such, and by law those places are only allowed to permit cigar smoking indoors, cigarettes must still be smoked outdoors.
Turnpike Troubadours. Reel Big Fish would be fun. Spent a lot of nights in college pre-gaming to "Beer" and "Sell Out". I think Zipline is part of our plans, if only because it's so damn close to our hotel. I've never been blown away by their Iowa distro products (then again, I've never thought it sucked either), but I've heard good things about the taproom. Lincoln has Uber, right?
yep lincoln has uber. zipline doesn't do much i'm interested in but their taproom is really nice, definitely worth a visit if you are staying nearby.
