Anyone know of anyone who was once a huge craft beer enthusiast that completely lost interest now? And I'm not referring to stopping due to any health/medical condition but purely out of choice. I've been into craft beer for about 3-4 years now drinking 1-2 beers on daily basis. Prior to that I hardly drank..maybe just an occasional BMC social drinker when out with friends. I've always thought about if I would ever eventually get to a point where I completely lose interest and I'm done with craft beer and go back to just occasional social drinking again. Not that I see it anywhere on the horizon for me but just curious if that possible and if that's has actually happened to anyone you know. I would love to hear their stories.
    Cheers

I can't imagine a time where I'd ever want to go back to drinking Mickeys and Rolling Rock.

Never will go back to the dark side...

I can think of friends who love craft beer, but don't choose to drink it due to financial reasons and alcoholism.

for me, I drink great craft beer because I love the taste, or else I would just drink bourbon.so I wont quit(unless medical) anytime soon.

    cheers!

Never going back but being broke has me favoring the lower end of the craft beer section.

What am I missing? Craft beer goes perfectly well with social drinking. You don't need to endlessly chase beers or track every sip; just sit back and enjoy it the way it really is meant to be enjoyed.

I get bored once in a while. I'll just switch it up and drink only water/coffee for about 3-4 months. Just enough time to rekindle my love for beer.

I guess it depends upon how you define an enthusiast. I know any number of people who drink only craft beer but drink the same beer 90+% of the time. I consider them enthusiasts do you?

Craft beer no, craft beer "culture" yes. I was embarrassed last year by the
reaction of the community to the Budweiser Proudly Macro ad played during
the Super Bowl. Get over it, and drink your fucking coconut pumpkin pie beer.

Oh, and get off my lawn.

Well said. I didn't feel defensive or offended as many were, because I thought the depictions nailed it.

I'm losing interest with a larger and larger percentage of craft beers themselves too. Things have gone too far in too many directions that don't overlap with my tastes. It's at the point where at some beer bars there isn't a single tap that I want to drink sometimes.

My love of good beer has continued to grow, year by year. Along with food, sports and music, beer is one of my biggest passions.

I have been into radio listening - shortwave, police, ham - on and off for 50 years. I lose interest for a few years then back to it for a few years. That can happen with any hobby - but the thing with craft is that once you taste the quality, variety and kick of it how could you go back to macro? Craft - to me anyway - is about the hunt for those beers and styles which I can stock up on as daily drinkers, even though I am not a daily drinker. I have not been into craft long, but if I ever do lose interest in "the hunt", I have already identified my preferred style and a half dozen beers that would prevent me from ever relapsing into the mundane macro sameness.

No. Don't know of a single person who fits that description. Know a few who got "overly enthusiastic" and first who have gotten a bit more "mellow" as their tastes have matured, but nobody who lost interest.

I could see losing interest in drinking as much as I do, but never turning from the beverage of choice being a good beer.

Pretty much agree. These days I find myself less enamored with beers that try to push the envelope, and more in awe of breweries that can do a superb job with traditional styles.

Myself, I don't hunt for the find anymore, IMO it's just not worth the time energy. Do I still love craft beer? Absolutely, but I'm certainly done ticking, not that I thought I was anyway. Financially, some of the pricing has gotten out of hand and again, this is my opinion. I understand supply and demand drives every market and the choices are ours to pay or not.

I am mostly done with the scene so to speak, mostly because I really don't like all the stereotypical (and I know it's wrong) youngsters sitting around discussing fruits, nuts, licorice, third world coffee, mango, citrus, boozy, onion cat piss in a Teku that was definitely better last year.

In my case it's also about age too as I'm sure my parents felt the same way about my friends and I with long hair, Nehru jackets, pot and the rock and roll. I do miss four fingers for $10.00 though.

I do this too except I'll go 3-4 hours or days tops.

It's beer and it's been around for a long long time and has gone through many changes over the years.

As long as I'm alive I'll buy and consume

I'm not a social person so I only drink at home, and I cannot see a weekend in the foreseeable future where I'm not drinking beer. Maybe not craft every weekend, but most likely. I like it, I like the community on Beer Advocate. It's my weekend hobby.

I have been into craft beer for a while, and I am a ritualistic person. I absolutely love having a beer or two every night - I thoroughly enjoy tasting new things (and old favorites), so I can't see changing!
