The official North Coast distributor is here in Mexicali. He buys for his own bottle shop ober here and also distributes to the rest of Mexico.

We got the entire year round stuff from North Coast.

Also Sierra Nevada, Stone and Green Flash have started appearing all around the city.

Great to hear it is growing in popularity! As for sours, who knows, gonna take someone with guts to brew it and enough people to love it and buy it. If one does well, others will be made, at least that is how it worked here.

BTW I love your city, spent a month and a half total in my 3 visits, much of it strolling through Agua Azul.

Wasn't one of the reasons with Lagunitas hooking up withe Heineken was to open up big distribution for them to Mexico?

From my perspective there's no other way to go when visiting another country.

It looked to me in Mexico City that there was an existing and growing local beer culture. Perhaps LordCrabapple might want to spend more of his time during foreign travel in exploration of the local and avoid those places on the beaten path where the tourists tend to cluster/congregate? (Might just help to renew his faith in the critical abilities of peoples from other cultures.)

I was recently in Cancun, struggled to find anything beyond the Dos Equis, Corona, and Modelo. I stuck with the Negra Modelo.

When I lived in Mexico(Baja CA), I couldn't find any craft beer anywhere, now even my cousin has a craft brewing company! It's quite exciting.

I was fortunate enough to try Fauna's coffee porter. Mexican craft beer is well on its way to being great!

    Indio (marzen)
    Bohemia (Czech pils)
    Bohemia Weizen
    Leon (dark lager)
Noche Buena (seasonal winter bock...may be gone by now)

All solid options that you should be able to find in cancun.

Yes - when I visited Niger in the 80's we were advised to drink only bottled drinks, such as water, Coke, Heineken, or the local beer Biere Niger. I opted for Biere Niger - even though it was not that good, I preferred it over Heineken. Why travel if you're going to limit your experience to what you consume back home - food or drink?

I agree because I only go to Mexico as a tourist, like yourself. If I lived there however, I'd probably be dying to try American craft beer since it would be a rarity for me.

I haven´t see any Legion beers in Guadalajara, I saw that Fauna posted on their facebook their sour production. All we can get here is Lindeman´s Faro Lambic, Gueuze and Kriek, imported by Primus and Duchesse de Burgogne that I don´t know who imports and distributes here. Cheers!

Thank´s, hope you got to see The Agua Azul at it´s best, because some governments tend to forget about it, great place.

Nice trip! Agua Mala and Wendlandt are great breweries, both available here in Guadalajara with awesome beers. I´m planning to go to Ensenada this year, and cross to San Diego to visit some breweries, but my partner in the brewery wants to go to the oktoberfest and visit some breweries in Belgium, so I don´t know where we are going.

Now that you mention that, last "Cerveza México" (the biggest beer show in Mexico) there was a Lagunitas display offering their beers in extremely low prices, I was surprised and bought a lot of imperial stouts, very very cheap, maybe you are right.

That Fauna´s Coffee Porter is one of my favorites, called Penelope, great beer.

Anybody here have any recommendations on breweries / craft beer bars in Mexico City? My Wife and I will be visiting some family who lives down there in April/May, and I'd like to take my brother-in-law out one night to a nicer brewery / craft bar.

Also any stores that anybody can recommend down here for craft beer / higher end tequila would be appreciated. Thanks, and it's good to see craft hitting Mexico the way it seems to be.

There is a Soriana supermarket inside of the Kukulcan mall, on the second floor. The mall is right about in the middle of the hotel zone. Was in Cancun in December and they had 2-3 Mexican craft breweries with 2-3 varieties from each, along with a handful of European imports but no American Craft. I ended up drinking a lot of Delirium Nocturnum along with the Mexican Vienna's which I thoroughly enjoy when I visit.
