I am 60 years old and drank beer when Michelob and Coors were considered good beer. In college we occasionally drank Corona because it was inexpensive if you can believe that. Needless to say, I did not drink much beer, in fact I drank scotch and gin for many years. I only recently got into beers after tasting a couple of really good beers. In a short period of time I have come to know the few styles that I really like and have had a lot of beer that I did not like at all. I see a lot of breweries trying to use ingredients in what seems to be an attempt to be different. New microbreweries on every corner.
All of this lends to a bewildering selection and occasional frustration. I look at the list of beer offerings from breweries and for the life of me I can't understand the need for 20 different IPAs from one company. How about working on fine tuning and improving a good brew. I like variety, but it seems a bit ridiculous at times IMHO.

Most useless thread 2016 and the year is just beginning.

Sure it's always possible my hobbies will change but there is one thing for sure, I will NEVER EVER ago back to drinking BMC.

THIS. The "elite" nerds dissecting every beer to show their rating of it on the internet are far quicker to bully or harass people within craft than the people outside of craft. Everyone is offended over everything. It's embarrassing.

I've only been into craft for about 2 years. Would never go back to BMC, but getting really tired of the hype factor. Now, here on ba, its not enough to enjoy a good, relatively inexpensive, highly available craft beer in the 3.8-4.1 rating range. You are belittled on the forums,on the trading page, and elsewhere. Seems if you're not standing in line, hunting whales, your just not trying hard enough. I just want a tasty beer! Cheers

You're hanging out in the wrong threads. Come by WBAYDN or New Beer Sunday for a more hospitable atmosphere.

Tired of craft beer? No, not even slightly. I enjoy tasty beer, and I'm reasonably certain that, barring some medical issue, that will remain a constant in my life.

Tired of craft beer culture? Probably a little, but given that I don't participate in the hype and/or the hunt, it's mostly a "whatever" sort of situation.

The one thing I am getting weary of is the profusion of highly hoppy beers on shelves and tap handles, and the tendency for breweries to dump high amounts of hops into beer styles not known for hops. But that's just my luck in being some form of a supertaster.

WBAYDN is my favorite thread. It's like page after page of Playboy centerfolds. I ogle it every day. Nothing sexier than a well poured RIS.

Ha! There's that, too, but there are also plenty of people who just let their own particular freak flags fly no matter what the prevailing trends are.

WBAYDN and NBS are where I get suggestions of new beers to try. I've got a big shopping list due to 'yall. Also have gotten interested in cool glasses and have picked a few up. My first NBS was using a big coffee mug since I could not locate a beer glass - which has been more than remedied!

Yes, on the vessels. Sometimes, my breath is taken away by full frontal glassware.

I would not go as far as saying I've lost interest, but the days of chasing beer or standing in line are over.

I wouldn't say I am losing interest but I will say that some craft brewers are "jumping the shark" with some of their experimental styles. But there is so much out there still that will not go out of style.

Very interesting thread topic. I was fascinated by everyone's different views on beer. There is no signs of me slowing down on craft beer. I feel like ever since I dove head first into the craft beer scene a couple years ago I thought it was insane the passion everyone shared for beer. Ratings, appearance, trading, mouthfeel, weird code language for whales. It really rubbed off on me in my life. I found myself appreciating and becoming more passionate about other things I loved in life, like food, coffee, music, the NBA as I do with craft beer obsession. Now I'm paying more attention to detail in all aspects of life. All in thanks to craft beer.

I don't forsee losing interest in craft beer at any point. There's always a new style or brewery to discover and old ones to revisit.

I am, however, with a lot of other commenters that are not into the huge barrel-aged beers as much as they used to be. Unless it's a bottle share, I really don't seek out the big, "whale" beers anymore. And no, it wasn't backlash to hype or anything, but just an evolution of my palate. I was at The Bruery the other week (and excited to be there!) and it seemed like everything was over 14%. I just wanted a drinkable beer. I am glad, however, that specialization like that is happening; the more diversity the better.

I suppose if I were a chemist involved in a lab accident that robbed me of the majority of my senses of smell and taste that this would be plausible. Otherwise, no.

Up and down is probably more accurate than saying lost interest. 11 years ago, my second kid was born and we moved to Thailand a few months later. Craft beer and homebrewing pretty much fell off to zero for me for a few years. Life runs in stages.
