Deschutes love

Always have time for Deschutes. My local bottlo managed to get a fairly fresh supply of their brews recently. I was getting Inversion on a somewhat regular basis.

When I was in Seattle, Mirror Pond was the six I would grab from the convenience store cooler when I didn't want to try and make a decision. And the first CDA I had was a schooner (a 425ml Washington "pint") at Bison Creek Pizza in Burien when I was right off the plane and still jet-lagged. Been a fan of this beer, and style, ever since.

And I will mention my fav seasonal.... Twilight Ale!

 

I agree with the general sentiment in this thread. Black butte porter was one of my "gateway" beers into the craft game and if I am feeling for a "go to" 6 pack, I can pick up whatever's in rotation from deschutes and know that I'm going to be happy as a clam with whatever I picked up. Nothing but love for the guys from Bend.

 

They do, but when they do it's pub only.

 

Deschutes is my go to in Iowa. So happy they came here.

 

I wish their beer was sold in 12 packs/variety packs to give good old SN a run for their money around here. $10 and change for a Deschutes 6 pack compared to stuff like SN fall packs for $12 and change.

 

Yeah, but Deschutes is far better/tastier.

 

Not to be the contrarian, but while their dark beers are off the charts, their bottle APA/IPA are just to yeasty for me. I think the bottle condition really effects their flavor in a bad way, with the exception being Fresh Squeezed, but even then, it's soo much better on tap than in the bottle.

Most of my beer friends would agree that Inversion is downright not good. (Speaking as a coastal Oregonian with full availability of all Deschutes beers).

 

Have to agree here. My least favorite offerings are the ones they brew year around, specifically the Mirror Pond and Inversion. if I won PowerBall I'd buy the company and make Red Chair the year around APA.

 

Fading Red Chair is still better than Mirror Pond. I scored a couple bombers of Cindercone at TW&M last month.

 

I'm more used to SN, so they're kind of my go to. The Jubelale was crazy good, I like the Red chair PA, Fresh Squeezed, & BB. And the Twilight was decent, and I didn't think the Chainbreaker was horrid. Haven't tried the Mirror Pond and haven't seen the Obsidian, yet. That SN fall pack though....oh yea. Coffee stout was nice too.

 

Dead serious: at least in terms of nationally available beer, Deschutes is (in my opinion) the best brewery in America.

I'm not sure that they make the best beer in any particular style (though Obsidian Stout is close), but they almost definitely make a top-10% (maybe even top-5%) version of virtually every style of beer, ranging from pale ale to red ale to porter to stout and IPA. And that's saying nothing about their seasonals, which are just perfect: Jubelale is what the Anchor Christmas Ale wants to be, many years, and the Twilight Summer Ale is just goddamned perfect for accompanying its namesake--a sunset in summer.

 

The reason I've tried every other PA in town but theirs (Mirror Pond), keep hearing lackluster reports about it.

 

Yup. Deschutes brewery can do no wrong. Everything they do is top quality. Feel sorry for the folks outside their distribution.

 

I don't know if many would argue quality with a brewery like Deschutes. Taste in specific beers might be open for discussion, though.

 

Abyss was one of the biggest disappointments of my craft beer drinking career...not good

 

Too bad - there aren't too many beers like that around any more.

 

Even better now that it's under 4% abv.

 

I want more Pine Mountain Pils! ! Dammit.

 

Love Deschutes. I'm always up for a Fresh-Squeezed IPA, in fact I have a couple bottles in the fridge right now!

 

Don't tell anyone but I am having a pint of it right now. Excellent in bottles and even better on draught. But not when the place uses a nitro mix.
