Really? I've had other DIPA/TIPA's that I thought were pretty good, but I'd be hard put to think of a TIPA I thought was better (younger maybe, but that's about it).

I'm just curious... what DIPA/TIPA's have you had that you felt were better?

Well, I said it was better than Hop Venom. 4x8 would be the Notorious peer, i think, but I've only had that once or twice so I can't really say. I like Notorious significantly more than I like Hop Venom, though.

Easily the best Triple i've had was triple sunshine from Lawson's, really unbeatable so far for me, i haven't had the younger yet. Doubles that I like better are probably Swish from Bissell Bros. and I would say I like bottom cutter just about on par with notorious, I realize a lot of people out here haven't tried the NE beers/don't like them since they are not nearly as hoppy/bitter, I really like both styles but probably prefer the NE style a bit more.

The only NE triple I've had was the Ephraim from HF, and that was some years back. It was terrific, but IMHO, really not all that different from Younger and Notorious (which is not a disparaging comparison in my book). I haven't had the triple Sunshine (just the double), and I'll readily admit that this is not a style I'm a huge fan of (for the reasons you mention). While still delicious, I think the citrus flavor in Lawson's IPA's is a bit over the top, and there's not enough bitterness in the finish. I think they're great beers, don't get me wrong, but I'm always puzzled when I read some of the "gaga" reviews on BA.

Have had the bottom cutter of course (great beer, but I wouldn't put it in the same class with Notorious), but not Swish. The only IPA I can recall having from Maine was lunch, and while a tasty beer, it's not in the same league as Notorious. Maybe some day (plan to do our honeymoon next fall in NE, and we'll be in Portland for a couple of days).

Frankly, the reason I even asked the question, is that I was hoping you could point me in the direction of some brewery I might have overlooked. I can probably get my trading partner to send me a bottle of triple sunshine (the label actually looks familiar, but I'm sure I would have reviewed it if I drank a bottle), and who knows, maybe the swish as well.

    Thanks. Cheers!

No Melvin or Barley Brown beers in my neck of the woods, so 3-Way could be the closest I get, unless they start distributing to eastern WA.

according to brewers at alpine, Green flash exclusively bottles nelson, duet, pure hoppyness. The "alpine brewing" you see is still in a green flash bottle.
