It wasn't always like that, 4-5 years ago you'd have awesome tap takeovers from out of market breweries etc.

By the time dominion posts that they have something rare, it's gone in 15 mins.

Yep, maybe even less than 4-5 years ago. They made that strategic decision once Savor Week blew up and the number of local craft brewers expanded significantly, which really only started to happen around 2012-2013. I agree that it makes sense, generally, but it's not what I would personally like to see. If we see some more high-quality brewers in the area that are experimenting and not always making their product easily accessible in DC proper, then that has the potential to change. I don't see that happening anytime soon though.

There was a thread about tap takeovers and breweries mostly bringing their standard lineup to these type of things. Is that what is happening in DC Beer Week? I don't remember from last year.

I managed to snag a Rye at Dominion. I assume that everyone was told that they could only have one variant (pick Rye or Cognac, not both)?

TW Alexandria still has a few Cognac Abyss bottles, plus some regular.

Yea, you really have to get there as the truck is unloading. It's annoying, but it won't change. There are too many truck chasers and lurkers on social media for stuff like that to last at a small place like Dominion. I have watched people hang out near and in the shop for 30-45min and only buy the rare stuff as it comes off the truck. They just pretend to browse. The best are the people that get pissed at them on Facebook and say they have bad inventory management (they posted they had bottles of Lunch and it sold out in an hour). They are the best bottle shop in NOVA, so its laughable when I read comments like that.

They do have Abyss on tap though. They also have Foothills Jade going, which I is an excellent IPA.

Conn Ave Wine and Liquor has a bunch of regular Abyss. They had two bottles or so of both the variants, but they looked like they were going right behind me. They also had Bourbon GBS and a couple of Imperial Biscotti Break variants.

WF P Street had a bunch of Nugget Nectar 6 packs and a bunch of Regular Abyss. They also had BCBS on draft for growler fills, which I thought was pretty stellar.

1-West DuPont (P St. Liqours) had KBS and every variant of BCBS since the dawn of time if you're willing to pay out the nose.

I was told the same at Conn Ave - I made the same choice you did.

Are you referring to K-1 in Arlington or 1 West DuPont (aka P St. Liquors) in DC? K-1 is a well respected shop with decent prices, 1 West is the exact opposite.

1 West! Sorry, I'm a transplant, and it was my first time out there. I mispoke. Corrected above.

    Cheers!

Westover has all three Abyss in stock - about $26/variant, and $17 for regular (I forget the exact amounts, but that's pretty close).

Is this on tap now or tapping this weekend? I was going to go today after work but I looked at their website and they didn't list any IPAs on tap, so I figured I'd wait.
