I just found some in the back of a cooler at a wierd liquor store, do u guys think its still worth buying?
At full price- nfw. At a discount I might take a chance just to satisfy my curiosity, and even that would depend on how steep the discount was. My guess is that it would not have obvious problems like being oxidized or faded, but just come across as being a 'nice' beer that was once hoppy.
As much as I lust for that beer, I wouldn't buy it, personally. Also because fresh batches will be here before you know it...and more often it sounds like http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/lagunitas-sucks-seasonal.35692/
Buy it (only if it is discounted) and hold onto it until a fresh batch comes out, and then do a side by side blind taste test and see which you prefer.
I'd say nah, that hop forward style goes malt, and it's old. The new stuff will be out in Oct give or take, I'd wait unless it was damn near free.
Then he should buy a malt heavy IPA like 90min. or Double Dog. When a DIPA lacks a hefty malt forward base from the get go like Pliny or Sucks, having the hops fade isn't going to magically give him the maltiness he'd be looking for. My advice is pass on it, unless you enjoy experimenting as much as you like drinking tasty beer.
So it is outside the realm of possibility that he may enjoy the beer? I'm not suggesting he drop a ton of cash on this, but if he can get it on the cheap, keep and open mind, and give it a shot. Worst case his opinion falls into the majority, best case he really enjoys it and got it for a steal.
