finally tried KneeDeep Simtra, but i stick by my opinion that KneeDeep Lupulin River is still "juicier" tasting (not mouthfeel)

I'll take Trillium over HF any time. Not that HF isn't make great beer but Trillium definitely tops them for me. Just one man's opinion of course, but you asked.

Not sure I get the whole obsession with a "juicy" IPA. Some of these NE IPAs that everyone raves about are borderline orange juice or grapefruit juice. I prefer my IPAs to have a hint of juiciness, but with a nice balance of dank piney resin. A couple of examples of this that I feel do it really well are the Stone Enjoy By series and Carton 077XX, quite possibly my 2 favorite beers.

I had Hermitage Brewing single hop series, both Citra and Mosaic, last time I was in the bay area. Both are awesomely juicy and dank.

OP, not sure where in Norcal you're located, but Modern Times distro finally hit Sacramento area. After finally getting to try City of the Sun, for IPAs brewed on the left coast I think this is one you must seek out if you haven't already tried it. Others have thrown it out as suggestions in this thread, and I would completely agree. It will not have the soft mouthfeel however, and there is a hint of citrus astringency/bitterness on the finish (at least for my palate). YMMV

Edit: Wanted to clarify as I didn't want to sound bitchy, I greatly appreciate @ModernTimesJacob for bringing the MT deliciousness to more markets in Norcal! Stoked to have your products with far less effort now.

Sure....what can you get for NE style IPAs in PA?

Circling back to this statement, because it's one I've had in mind for a while now when it comes to hazy/turbid IPA, and it's the question I haven't been able to answer for myself: why is it permissible for weizens to be super cloudy, but it's faux pas with IPA? My quibbles with the hazy IPA thing is less with the haze than with the mania of its proponents, but I digress:slight_smile: Anyway, glad you brought the Q up and interested to hear your (or others) thoughts on it.

Since when is a hazy IPA faux pas?

Since centuries of cask ale. Since the BJCP. Etc. Not saying they have to be that, only that it's certainly been the tradition.

I said almost the exact same thing in another thread (at least, I think it was another thread...a lot of "Juicy/Hazy" NE threads have been popping up lately...).

This is what we should be talking about, not whether one region of the country has the magical power to make better IPAs than another. The things that everyone in this thread are raving about are things that Stone is pulling off with their Unfiltered line (I'm calling it a line since there will be more releases this year), and they're doing it while distributing all over the country. Regardless of your thoughts on Stone, Enjoy By or Enjoy By Unfiltered (I'm a big fan of Stone, not really a fan of Enjoy By, and a HUGE fan of Unfiltered), the fact that they've proved this is a viable way to get people fresh, unfiltered beer really opens the door for the little guys down the road (who are hesitant to distribute due to freshness concerns, as others in this thread have mentioned). Does everyone have the means to distribute like Stone? Hell no. But hopefully this will get some of these guys thinking, and the end result will be more super fresh, hoppy beer for all of us.

To be fair, that was absolutely true until 5-10 years ago. There may be a bunch of tiny brewerues in the NE making stuff that's slightly better (at least to some people's palates), but the big guns in CA still make the best widely distributed IPAs in the country.

Latest in a growing list of NE inspired CA IPAs. Great name -- and the beer
Looks gorgeous. Nice and opaque. Can't wait to checkout out!!!

@Sponan - Agreed on the whole "juicy" being a buzz word, along with "dank" and "catty" (I mean who really has tried cat piss as a flavour?) however I also get what the OP is saying due to them referencing NE IPAs, so whilst "juicy" is a buzz word it's not that big of a deal when there is some context provided.

Am I the only one out here who actually enjoys a clear, resinous, bitter bomb over the cloudy, fruit flavored cousin going on right now?
